NBA Thread 2020-21 Season

I think there will be a bunch of deals announced day one and it will be rapid fire with Woj and Shams.

Part of me wonders if all the deals leaking on Twitter and the media last summer before “official” free agency period opened and now with the report of the NBA apparently investigating the Bogdanovic deal that the word to teams/reporters was to keep things quiet until the actual period started for optics.
Yeah ilyasova lost 7 million dollars because someone in Sacramento most likely couldn’t keep their mouth shut.
I wonder if Dallas might make a move for Bogdanovic now or will they keep their cap space for next year.

Don't really have to worry about keeping it open if you sign him to a decent contract. He should be easily moveable next year when half the league has cap space.

So, if I have this right, the Clippers traded Shamet, McGruder, and a pick for Kennard, Daniel Oturu, and some Scrubb. Not a bad night, considering they came in with just the 57th pick.
Turns out the Clippers acquired Justin Patton and four second round draft picks from Detroit as well. So they upgraded from Shamet to Kennard, unloaded a bad contract, and added two center prospects, along with four picks and the JUCO POY.

I'm pretty sure reporters never dropped any of the FA signings until the window officially opened. (and then they would all come out as soon as that happened) You would definitely hear about trades ahead of time though.

The Bogdanovic sign and trade seems like a pretty brazen flouting of the rules, if nothing else.

It’s not happening. Mark Stein was saying the NBA is investigating the deal and wouldn’t approve it with the current players discussed because multiple teams in the league complained.

I doubt that pushed Giannis out of Milwaukee but damn if it did have any impact. Not sure who else they can get.
Watch Gordon Hayward force a sign and trade to Milwaukee.

Celtics new alternate jerseys suck.

EnRrgHtWMAQ97W6

Were those created by someone in an intro to photoshop class?
It’s the font for the Celtics championship banners.
It’s just a stupid Jersey.
I don’t like the black alternate either but atleast it looks good.
The team colors are green and white with gold being used before.
Black goes with any color so I get those alternates but not a fan this garbage.

I was joking about this with a friend of mine yesterday too. He wouldn't offer the shooting that we seem to be looking for but I do like him and think he'd address needs that should be prioritized more than shooting IMO.

I think whoever he signs with will be offering more money than the Bucks can afford though.

I really am curious where the Bucks go from here. I've thought for months now that we'd eventually end up trading for Evan Fournier but making that work financially is just as complicated as the Bogdanovic move now is so doesn't seem super likely.

Fournier is intriguing to me. I feel like he's a guy that's pretty good, but outside of Vuc, how easy is it to tell how good anybody on the Magic is?

Such a weird team. But I like a lot of their players! And I have no idea if I should trust that.

Marc Stein reporting that the Celtics and Pacers are working on a sign-and-trade for Gordon Hayward. Never thought I'd see the day that a sign-and-trade was negotiated prior to the moratorium.
To be fair all they’re doing is re-negotiating a deal it’s already been in place for months. Hayward is using leverage to get a multi year extension as part of the trade rather than just playing the one year out and then renegotiating after the season. Doug McDermott and Myles Turner are probably going to Boston.

I’m probably wrong on the timing then. I was thinking more like the tweets reporting things like “hearing lots of mutual interest between Player X and Team Y.” Then free agency officially starts and they immediately announce that they agreed to a deal and the terms.

That seems alright, yeah? Hayward's good but redundant to Tatum and Brown, and for any questions people have on Turner, he will make the Celtics better at the 5.

Plus Dougie McBuckets, worth a roster spot for the fun of the nickname alone.

I feel like this is a really good deal for everyone.

I get it and I don't actually care. It is tampering though lol but as we know, everyone tampers. It's just the way things work.

So the NBA front office basically told Milwaukee you aren’t going to be allowed to do this deal because multiple teams complained.

Ilyasova lost 7 million dollars because somebody leaked this story too earlier. I would be pissed if I were him.

Zero sympathy from a fan that had Chris Paul blocked from the Lakers

Tampa is for part of the year anyway.
If Donald Trump completes his solving of Covid and it gets under control as people get the Trump discovered Vaccine, I can see the Raptors back by April.

The NBA and NHL offseasons are so different, even though they ended 2020 basically at the same time.

Within 8 days of their final 2020 game, the NHL had their draft and Free Agency in early October (October 6 and October 9). Yet they have no clue when they will start the season. Seems like there will be at least a 3 month gap between Free Agency and the start of their season.

The NBA waited 32 days to have the draft and free agency, and the season will start within one month of thoe periods.

NHL redid their CBA so there is less need to rush back.
NBA doesn’t want to opt out of the CBA so they need as much of a season as they can get.
NBA lost about 2 billion last year from the year before they need as much revenue as they can get.

You know what though, I was listening to the Duncan and Hollinger podcast this morning, and they mentioned last year, and how the Kyrie and KD news actually leaked a little before the 6:00 window opened, and I do remember that now. So I think you're right.

I was thinking the same thing recently, maybe also part of the issue is the NHL has 7 teams in Canada and the NBA just the 1? Is probably making logistics that much harder.

I don't think the logistics of the 7 Canadian Teams are all that hard for the NHL.
They can just have an All-Canadian Division if they need to.
US Fans will not care.
And Canadian Fans would love it.

The division would also seem to be reasonably on par schedule strength wise. But even if it is imbalanced, things are already skewed by a shorter schedule.
