NBA Thread 2021-22 Season

You are allowed to swap picks in the years in between.
So they will get still get first round pick but it will be where the Pelicans finish, which is likely not going to be as the Lakers pick once you trade Lebron/AD,
Nba trades are always weird … because teams that have the assets people want (high draft picks… young stars early in deals) have no interest in trading for even a star veteran.. you have to find the rare circumstance of a team with good draft capital looking to win now

Well another home season in the books. Here's my unsolicited write-up on the Kings record breaking season (16 years and no playoffs!!!).

We made it a majority of home games this year; a lot of bad losses, weak attendance, terrible coaching/rotations but it was still worth the experience. Last night's finale against the Pelicans had good energy - free shirt giveaway filled up a lot of seats and there were some characters around me. Directly behind me was a teenager, probably 16 or 17 who announced play-by-play the entire game (not on a phone for likes, just to himself and anyone that would listen). "McCollum dribbles into the lane, passes it out to Ingram, swings it to Herb Jones in the corner and he drains it! Bottom of the net and the Pelicans extend their lead!" He knew every player on both sides and announced stat lines and runs. It was ridiculous. It was top 3 experience of the year...which is also kind of sad. My other top 2:
1. Chimezie Metu buzzer beater against Dallas.
2. Denver Nuggets game after the all-star break.

On to the team - what a mess. With the Haliburton trade the window has been shortened to the next 2 years. Fox and Sabonis have to find a way to play at an all-star level and the team needs to add a consistent 3 point threat. As for the rest of the team - Davion Mitchell has come into his own the last 2 weeks, he had a Kings rookie record 17 assists last night, not confident that it will work with him and Fox together but that's all there is. Harrison Barnes can be shipped out as far as I'm concerned. He was great early on but faded down the stretch, just like last year. He doesn't seem to be a vocal leader which is what you want from a veteran starter that doesn't fit into the timeline. DiVincenzo can walk as well, he hasn't impressed me much but I'll be surprised if he isn't re-signed. Richaun Holmes can go - he has a pending domestic violence charge... Damian Jones has shown some flashes so I would keep him. Terence Davis can stick around and the rest of the roster can go.

Hopefully Kings get lucky in the lottery and move into the top 4. Biggest need is SF/wing type player. The new GM has hit on the last 2 drafts with Haliburton and Mitchell but doesn't deserve that much credit as both picks were simply BPA. That said, Vlade did not follow the BPA formula and that's how we got in the whole Bagley mess. Baby steps.

I wonder where Melo will take his minimum wage free agent contract to next year. I don't watch a lot of Lakers games but looking at his stats, you could argue that he had one of his best years in a long time.

He was reliable and did his job. He’s become a really solid spot up 3 point shooter, and he can still create his shot and get cooking with the ISO’s from time to time. Pretty good at picking his spots.

For what? They already have every draft pick.
They have a lot. Bogdanovic with 10 free throw attempts in the first 5:12 minutes of the game. That has to be a record.

I know his career is still very young but I think it may have been a mistake to leave Jokic off the NBA75 team. I think he should have been included based on reasonable projection similar to Shaq on the NBA50 team.

Absolutely. Jokic was already an MVP.

Huge credit to the eastern conference. Every single one of their playoff teams, even play-in, are over .500. That seems hard to do. We're not in the days of western conference dominance right now.

Miami is #1
Milwaukee seems fine with #2

Seems like Toronto will be #5 and Chicago will be #6.

I know that Philly wants nothing to do with Toronto and would prefer to face Chicago. Toronto has won the season series 3-1 against Philly, and Toronto has typically made Embiid perform below his norms. Including last night when Toronto beat Philly again without 2 starters. Also Thybulle can not play in Toronto as he is unvaccinated.

I would think Philly will try hard to get the #3 seed to get to play Chicago for the reasons noted above. Chicago also has Ball out.

Boston hold the tie-breaker over Philly. There last game is against Memphis. How much (if at all) do they want Chicago or Toronto. The availability of Jaylen Brown in Toronto. would probably dictate some of that as well, and only they know the answer. I'm not convinced that he is vaccinated or not vaccinated.

Brooklyn has two easy games left. So I assume they are going to get a 7/8 spot and avoid the harder scenario that #9 faces.

Cleveland is in a bit of a free fall and they may not even make it past the play in.

He's no Nikola Jokic (not even close) but I am pretty proud of the turn around that Pascal Siakam has made from the 2020 bubble disaster and the mediocre Tampa season last year.

In the last 11 games Pascal has played vs play-off teams
- Toronto is 9-2
- Pascal has 29pts, 9rebs, 6 assists
- 54% FG, 41% 3pt, 83% FT

Watching Knicks-Wizards-
Obi has been solid for several games in place of Randall.
18pts at the half and has added two 3's (5-6) in Q3 to build further on career high.
Wizard are depleted, but Obi has passed his audition as far as I'm concerned.
Trade Randall and his toxic issues. Obi's potential is worth developing.

Jazz blew another one last night. Leading by 17 going into the 4th quarter but the Suns outscored them 36-13 in the 4th. Same situation over and over. They looked so good in the 3rd and then the Suns completely dominated them in the 4th. I was thinking how when Chris Paul and Deron Williams were both starting out their careers that DWill used to physically manhandle CP3 and pretty much dominate him. I never would have expected that he would still be playing today and playing at such a high level. I've never been a fan, and always thought he was a little overrated, but the last couple years have made me appreciate how good he really is and it's very hard for me to admit that.

Seems likely that it will be Boston vs Toronto in Round 1.

Milwaukee is tanking the game tomorrow, in hope of losing the 2 spot but likely hangs on to it.

Philly is certainly trying hard to win to get #3 instead of #4. They are also playing Detroit who is already tanking, and furthermore Dwayne Casey will do whatever possible to **** with the Raps, and he knows the Raps want the Sixers.

So if Milwaukee loses, Phllly wins, then Boston who play later at 7:00 can't finish 3rd apparently.. With a win they finish second, and with a loss they finish 4th. I'm sure Boston would have preferred 3rd but once (if) Milwaukee loses its not possible. And I am sure they will choose Toronto at that point instead of Brooklyn.

Based on what I have read ( I think!), if Boston would have the tiebreaker in basically any scenario. So if they win (seems likely?), the Bucks lose (seems also likely) then Boston is the 2 and they get the Nets.

Do you think Boston would prefer Toronto if Brown is actually ineligible to play road games in that series?

With all the tanking and machinations the NBA should really do like MLB and have the whole league finish on Sunday at the same time.
