ND, Wake, UNC and FSU Games Postponed / Pitt rescheduled

But that's what I don't understand - were the NYS rules different between football and basketball?

I don't think we played a team where a player / coach tested positive right after our game? Unless I have my Trevor Lawrence timeline off...

Right? I can’t comprehend how the football program, that is 10x bigger, didn’t have to shut down or even have players miss a game because of covid.

We might never see a more impressive combination of self-control and luck

We could play UNC the Wednesday after we
Play them March 1st.
They would play M W S that week.

We would Play M W.

So let's talk about the Wake Forest and UNC games and whether Syracuse might be allowed to play.

My understanding of the latest CDC recommendations is that if you are exposed to COVID, the earliest you can break quarantine is 7 days from the exposure.

This is contingent on getting tested 5 days after exposure, and of course, you need to have no symptoms during that week of quarantine.

I think NYS uses stricter, maybe more outdated guidelines.

The Wake and UNC games are being played in North Carolina. I think NYS rules are therefore not applicable for either game.

If the team is tested 5 days after exposure (that would be Thursday, Christmas Eve), and if everyone passes those tests, and if no one has any symptoms through Saturday, is there a possibility they can play Wake?

I don't think they have canceled either game yet, so I am thinking the answer is yes. Anyone know for sure?

They would have to go straight from quarantine into playing high level athletic competitions, and I hope they don't try to do that again. Sidibe got hurt the first time around, and I believe if they do it again the chance of injury will also be high.

That is a good point. I would actually be even more concerned about lack of conditioning and just overall lack of sharpness. It wouldn't be ideal but hopefully the players are working out out on their own and learned some lessons from the other layoffs. This isn't the first time they have been shut down and it likely won't be their last either.

This isn't a normal year though and if a game is playable, even if there has been a fairly long layoff, I think it probably should be played. As JB says, it doesn't sound like it is going to be an option anyway. Sigh.

I'm assuming more extreme measures need to be taken because Buffalo did not equip their players with the beacon tracking devices so we could measure exposure? I'd assume the rules then would just say consider everyone exposed.

The NCAA should really push back the tournament until April.
For sure. Needs to be pushed.

the college bball season seems to be off to the worst start of any major sport so far. Expecting teams to get in a reasonable number of games and Conf tournaments by mid March is unrealistic.

April and may should be pretty open on the sports calendar too. No nba or nhl playoffs to contend with. The tourney site hasn’t really been locked down yet either. So doesn’t seem like a lot of downside in pushing it.

As indicated by the Mike Waters link, NYS does not follow CDC guidelines. NYS is still at 14 days. If you read the CDC guidelines it will tell you that CDC reduced the number of days not based on the science of epidemieology but because of the science of people's s willingness to do something they do not want to do (i.e., It is more likely people will quarantine if you shorten the quarantine people or half a loaf is better than none.)

Also I'm confused.
