ND, Wake, UNC and FSU Games Postponed / Pitt rescheduled

Just to be clear on the CDC recommendations. They still recommend 14 days of quarantine when exposed. But, they allow for localities to reduce that based upon local circumstances. It can be reduced to 10 days without testing and no symptoms or it can be reduced to 7 days with a negative test and no symptoms. Science says going to 7 days however, even with testing, the risk of transmission increases by 5%-12%. But be sure, their recommendation is still 14 days.

So if the requirement does get lowered to 10 days we could go to Wake and play, right? Just wouldn’t be able to practice beforehand

They would have to go straight from quarantine into playing high level athletic competitions, and I hope they don't try to do that again. Sidibe got hurt the first time around, and I believe if they do it again the chance of injury will also be high.
Agree. For the sake of these kids health and their basketball future they absolutely should not do that again.

The incubation period is under 10 days in 99.99% (don’t look it up) of cases. We have access to constant testing. We played Buffalo 12/19. 12/19 plus 10 days is 12/29. The Wake game is 12/30...

What am I missing?
Practice is the issue if they are unable to resume practice during this period

Dont want to go into a conference game w no practice for 7-10 days

so is playing in a game and finding out days later that someone tested positive different than going to a store and finding out days later someone working there was positive? in both cases you might never have been around the person for any extended period of time.

still if they would test after the game they could eliminate most of the issues or more clearly know what to be concerned about.

As indicated by the Mike Waters link, NYS does not follow CDC guidelines. NYS is still at 14 days. If you read the CDC guidelines it will tell you that CDC reduced the number of days not based on the science of epidemieology but because of the science of people's s willingness to do something they do not want to do (i.e., It is more likely people will quarantine if you shorten the quarantine people or half a loaf is better than none.)

That doesn't sound like science. It sounds like placating peoples feelings. To this end, I only had a 10 day quarantine when I tested positive in New York - it began the day I first had symptoms.

maybe the rules should be each team has 2 groups of 7 players and you only against those 7 then you split the game into 4 10 min 1/4 and add up the results, then if a team has an issue just those 7 have to sit out..

NOT A POLITICAL STATEMENT

Neither the Federal or State governments have taken into consideration Mental Health throughout this whole pandemic.
We were rabid fans before the pandemic and have emotional investment whether we care to admit it or not. The ebbs and flows of each season, each game is discussed in detail and a lot of horses have been beaten to death. But that's what fans do . The stop and start, the empty stands, the uneven rules for each state, has made the season a big asterisk regardless of what happens.

The players and coaches have sacrificed their off the court behavior for he love of the game. I can only imagine what players real thoughts are about this season( I 'm young, I feel fine, lets play} naïve I guess, but who can blame them.

As to JB, I'm sure he's fuming about this whole thing,( Not the pandemic, the inconsistencies of the rules) he's very close to the finish line in his career, recruiting on the uptick, and seems to like this current team very much.

All that said, I go back to the mental health aspect, is it time to just rip the band aid off and call it a season or do we get death by a thousand cuts with this stop and start experiment? Or even are all these games purely for exhibition and entertainment? Because the thought of a 14 day off Syracuse (or any team) playing crisp and battled UNC (or any team) is not even a real competition. Bryant showed us that, you really think the lack of practice didn't effect the team? Or Rutgers without Buddy?
Rant over:)

We had a player on our own team test positive and it shut down one guy for a little while, not the whole team.
I’m trying super hard not to get pizzed about the apparent different set of rules between the two sports..... I mean, is it a money thing? “Football rulez all” & “Ca$h is King” kinda deal?

I feel so bad for the players and the staff. This is no way to find the best version of yourself as a young basketball player.

My state government absolutely takes mental health into these decisions. I'm sure NY does as well.

Other wise men are too busy patting themselves on the back to bother to “follow the science”
we should certainly follow the science
but once we start referring to "the science" we have engaged in the fallacy of reification
which is unscientific

Man I wish I could see tweets on this site.

If you are on a computer, right click on the text that says “cannot be displayed” or whatever. Then select “Open in new tab” and it should properly load in the new tab.

Yeah, I understand the basis of this concern, I think, but I must point out that the mechanics of tearing a meniscus don't have a lot to do with how much practice you've had in the previous couple of weeks. Just saying...

If after the incubation period (from the Buffalo game) ends and we have 1 positive at SU, then everyone in close contact to him will need to go on quarantine again until the next incubation period starts.

It sucks but if we have one positive right now, we likely will not be playing any games the remaining of the year.
