NFL Draft Thread: Apr 24-26

the black hair dye penetrated the scalp and destroyed kiper's brain years ago. can you imagine being hired to forecast one trend and being so wrong year after year after year ? i watched PFF on prime day one and those guys are so much more informed and inciteful than dinosaur Mel. if you had invested your 401K in the KIPER and LUNARDI investment firm you'd retire in a cardboard box.

I think it is fair to say at this point Kyle should have stayed at SU if a fifth year could have been gotten.
Even if picked this round, he won’t make anything close this year to what he could have got in NIL
Really surprised that the NFL is just not picking QBs
And probably the same could be said for OG and Lequint as well.
It is a crap shoot.

Clearly scouts either lied to Kyle or Fran hyped the thing up too much. Pursuing the waiver seems like a much better idea with how this is playing out

There were articles everywhere in the sports press about McCord. Gruden pumped him up enormously, but so did everyone else who read about McCord's advanced stats at the Senior Bowl and the Combine. I have to imagine he interviewed exceptionally well. His film is great. His release time was the fastest in college last year. It's not hype. He was the best QB in college football last year.

I feel bad for all our guys and hope things work out for them. Can’t help but wonder if it is because they played for Syracuse?!

Mini run on

Seems that its about raw speed

To me, LaQuint Allen is a much better prospect than Sean Tucker. Terrific receiver out of the backfield.

Oronde Gadsden seems to me like another Kellen Winslow. I like those 2 guys the best as pros.
I agree on OG. Sophomore Sean Tucker was the best RB I have seen live at SU (my first live game was 1987, so I never saw Joe Morris in college). The injury and health issues really set him back.

Kellen Winslow is in the conversation for best tight end to have ever played the game, not sure Oronde is quite there yet.

The NFL is going to face some QB backlash in upcoming seasons. And this draft will be a catalyst for it. Kyle wasn’t guaranteed a 5th year, so he had to go. But guys with eligibility remaining are really going to start looking at staying for an NIL payday rather than deal with this “Oh, you’re awesome, and we want to draft you…” only to be left sitting around on day #3 with potential for a much smaller deal than NIL.

i'd disagree. his numbers were phenomenal . not likely to repeat them and more likely regress. much tougher schedule. factor in how few Qb's were selected plus the injury risk thing. he was wise to enter the draft imo . may have to play his way in thru camp.

He was aways a terrific, big, agile TE who could make the catch in the seam or over the middle.
Fran turned him into a much better blocker last year. I think he could be a terrific pro. Hugely underrated.

P.S. - Just like with basketball, it's all about projection.

None of them are the finished article yet. Even Michael Jordan wasn't Michael Jordan, or more accurately didn't become "Michael Jordan" until about about his 5th year, when he started making threes.

Of course Oronde Gadsden is not yet Kellen Winslow, but that's the type of player he looks like. That's what you would use as an example to try to build him. That's who you would model his game on, as his coach. That's whose film you show him, to try to teach him who he can become.

When I said Luke Fennell is a Chris Mullin type of player, I didn't say he was Chris Mullin right now. I'm saying that's who you use to try to mold his game into. That's his role model. That is his "ideal" version of who he could become.

Jesus, why do you guys even watch the draft, or follow recruiting at all if you don't understand the very basic proposition of trying to project who these players could turn into. Very few, if any of them are already the finished product. That's years down the road.

Is this the biggest letdown based on expectations for SU in draft history? At this point it hurts to watch .

Im not familiar with draft contracts vs FA contracts, I dont think this will happen but if Kyle did go undrafted would it be better to have a choice of teams rather than kinda stuck where drafted?
