NFL Thread - 2018

I see styles called different in basketball sure but not really specific plays.

In the NFL, the way they have the rule officially in the rule book. You can call illegal contact on LITERALLY every play. The roughing penalty...sometimes one way, sometimes another.

For example, I don’t like the way college calls the block/charge but they are pretty consistent on calling a charge most of the time.

Pick plays in the NFL. Sometimes called. Other times ignored. There’s no consistency other than...the only pattern I see is, it seems to me to be called one way to get an exciting finish

That's fair. Pretty much why zero replay is vastly superior to today's "replay everything" takes. They're just never going to come close to catching everything.
Although again there lots of equivalent "could call every play" plays - on post ups, rebounds, moving screens, drives, did the shot blocker go straight up or not, etc etc.

My issue with changing the OT rule is if the chiefs had won I doubt people are complaining that Brady didn’t get a chance to tie.
The current OT rules are fine. If you can’t stop a TD you lose.
NE coverted three 3rd and 10s and one 3rd and 9.
That is terrible defense by KC.
Nobody complained for Atlanta in the Super Bowl. It’s just hatred now of Patriots.

I’ve long felt that OT should just be playing another quarter. Or maybe a shortened quarter. 8 min? Maybe 10?

I like the current OT format better than most of the awful proposals I've heard but this one I really like:

Kicking team gets a possession to score more than receiving team. If they get 3 you need 6. If they get 7 you need 8. If they get 8 you lose.

So it’s the college format without the possibility of a second OT and not starting on the opponent 25. If you won the toss teams would elect for defense.
I could live with what you say as I hate how in college football you start off in FG range and take special teams out of OT.

The cat is out of the bag or whatever metaphor you want to use. If we went back to zero replay it would be an absolute sheetshow. They have the technology. Empower somebody up in the booth, stop with the ref coming over to the sideline nonsense. Just get the call right and do it quickly. Not that hard. College does a much better job than the NFL.

But it’s not in the basketball rule book, for example, that you aren’t allowed to touch when screening someone and then they just don’t call it. Sure moving screens, hand checks, etc happen but they are also called depending on the refs accepted style of play. It’s why UVA/old Jaime Dixon Pitt will never win a title.

In the NFL...In the rulebook it says you aren’t allowed to touch after 5 yards yet it happens all over the field on every play. Because it’s called so randomly or mostly not at all, it’s made the PI call even more random. They need to simplify it. Either you can’t touch or you can. One or the other and call it accordingly

NO NO NO NO NO AND NO.

All INTs are the QBs fault.

I looked at the box score and they are listed next too brady’s name.

ALL HIS FAIULT.

It’s like people have learned nothing on here...

Maybe you need to learn the difference between a well thrown tipped ball that goes for an INT vs an inaccurate pass that forces the receiver into a compromised position where they tip the ball which is then intercepted

There really is no logical reason in a playoff game to not let each team possess the ball once. I can see in the regular season having it be the way it is now , but change it for the playoffs ..

The team getting the ball first certainly did nothing to deserve that chance.

is it Mahomes fault that the D couldn’t make a stop? As a fan of neither team , I’d have liked to see how it played out..

It is Mahomes fault his team scored 0 points in the first half when he took a bad sack in the second quarter which knocked them out of field goal range.

KC didn’t deserve the ball. Make a stop and they win. If NE didn’t get the ball and lost nobody would be saying change the rule.

Nope.

I’ve told and scolded here repeatedly for thinking any INT is anyone other than the QBs total fault.

Know the boards rules before posting, please.

Thank you.

First I have no horse in this race, I am a Phins fan and they have been irrelevant for decades. Second, USA Today ran a poll last year, with responses from only NFL players. Who is the best player in the NFL. Answer: Tom Brady. It’s really the fans as is typical that have a beef and that usually stems from beat downs. Brady cheating, is a bit like saying baseball players cheat with pine tar. Ummm ok...so instead of traveling 400 feet it would have travelled 330? Still a home run. (I am spitballing there a bit on the actual benefits of pine tar but you get the gist).
Lastly in the immortal words of Yogi Berra, if you aint cheatin, you aint tryin. Just about every player on a football field try’s to cheat and they view that as getting the advantage. Dbacks pull backarm/jersey of wide receivers, linemen grab jerseys, etc...no one calls them cheaters. Sometimes a player is just really good and finds a way to win. Regretfully that has been Brady for the Pats. Hell he he even won in the wife category...she is a 10. Do I hope Brady smokes a turd in hell? Yep I do. Is Brady the best ever in the game. Yep he is. Do his peers think he is the best? Yep they do.
Anyone who really read up on deflate gate, without a dog in the fight, knows the allegations were BS, based on bad/fraudulent science. I wish Brady had sued the company for defamation.

Referees also missed several penalty calls that hurt Rams

Can we get Boomer Berman back to do only NFL primetime each week.
Can’t believe I miss the guy.

He didn’t sue because it’s almost impossible to prove defamation on a public person and the NFL would have been able to find a fall guy and Brady would get killed by haters for suing.
Deflategate was the owners making Goodell punish the team because they didn’t like the penalties for Spygate when the team lost a first round pick for Spygate.
Billionaires were bitter and so Goodell did what they wanted but if people could put their hatred aside they would have known Deflategate was garbage just like bountygate.

At it's peak, NFL Primetime was the ultimate highlight show. Loved watching Bills highlights on that show - it felt like you didn't miss anything.

You mean when highlight shows were about most pertinent highlights instead of advancing agendas resulting in high school
Softball highlights getting into the top ten ?
