My only logical explanation is that O'Brien heard he's going to be fired in the next couple days and he's out for revenge.

That still doesn't make sense unless Hopkins was planning to hold out which he can't really do under the new CBA. Johnson cap hit is 11.15 this year and 9 next year, though they can get out of it with only $3m dead cap next year. Hopkins has 12.5, 13.5, 13.9 next 3 years with 0 guaranteed money. So it didn't save them any money at all unless Hopkins was angling to get pushed up to the $18m+ club which he would be deserving of.

It's a really weird fit because the offense is built for guys that sit in the pocket and wait for deep routes to open up. It might actually be one of the worst fits I can imagine at least stylistically. But with Brady and Arians both being great at what they do, I'm sure they can smooth it out.

This is just a brutal trade.

He trades Hopkins, 2 first round picks, a second round pick, a fourth round pick for Tunsil, Kenny Stills, David Johnson, a second round pick, and fourth round pick.

If I were NE I would give up the 23rd pick for Hopkins and I wouldn’t even hestitate.

The guy is 27 years old he has atleast 5 years left in him.
As mentioned not only did BOB only get a second round pick he took Johnson’s brutal contract as well.
