With everything going on this week around Syracuse athletics, I would not be surprised if they announced a new deal with Nike on Thursday.

I have absolutely no information to base this on, other than Wildhack’s statement that there would be an announcement “in the fall”.

I would bet against that. A very small amount, but I’d bet.

Random: but a few “mid-senior-level” Nike executive are flying to town Wednesday. Through Sunday.

I kinda doubt it is for any Syracuse announcement. But...

Did we entertain any other bids or did we simply re-up Nike?

IM not saying re-upping with Nike is bad but certainly listening to what else is out there doesn't hurt

Who else is out there that can/will come to the table with something legit?

Deal expiration comes st a time where the market is softer than Charmin.

There are two other players and both should covet our program and pay dearly...its not every day the Syracuse program is up for bid...

I would LOVE to see your pitch for Adidas or UA, in person, to Jim Boeheim. I might even pay to watch

What if the difference in the annual $$$ was enough to pay Dino and his assistants to stay, would everyone be laughing at that?

Mr Boeheim we appreciate what NIKE has done and your close relationship with them but we are thinking long term with the overall success of our athletic programs. Seems simple to me, Im sure Coach Boeheim will still get free NIKEs for life when he retires

I wouldn't bank on it

You should always run a bid for something of that magnitude. Also just because you run bid, doesn’t mean that you still don’t end up with the incumbent. The bid process is just a mechanism but an important one to businesses and universities alike. Truthfully its HCJB’s job to coach and work relationships. Let the AD/CFO/CPO run the business contracts side. They know “business” better than Jim and that’s not a knock.

Why Thursday? Is there a press conference for the ND game scheduled?

If we don't have leverage with any other companies then NIKE will shaft us and this goes against my thinking that Wildhack will hit it out of the park, he won't. We are to believe we're only negotiating with one company? If it's not open for bid and he's not entertaining other offers then what's he doing?. This isn't a deal where low bid from 1 company wins.

Well, it's a good thing they didn't listen to JB's pitch when it came to going to the ACC from the Big East. Bottom line is what ultimately matters, and unless JB wants to pay the difference himself annually between the two hypothetical contracts, then, as an employee of the institution, he really hasn't any weight of significance, just as he didn't when he whined and complained about going to the ACC.

No doubt. In any negotiation, you are only as strong as what your leverage is, negotiation 101. The greater your leverage, the greater your payout.

With some of these post you would think NIKE has a tangle hold on us......just because we've done something for the last 20 years doesn't mean there isn't a better mouse trap out there....why is everyone so afraid to see what else is available...you guys sound like my grandmother, resistant to change...

I understand that Shirt World is making a late push. We pay him.

Under Armour and Adidas are in major trouble financially. Neither is capable of spending a lot of money on new college clients. I think we would all love to see more competition for these rights but the reality is that the timing is bad for Syracuse right now.

It is great that the football and basketball teams are both in the top 15. The athletic department is in the best shape it has been in for many years. The problem is with the market...

Yeah zero leverage really, not much of a market out there at all.

Well, if that's the case, the timing for SU is unfortunate. Maybe, SU needs to take out 5 year ARM with Nike vs. a 30 year fixed, and reassess the market then. ;):)

When it comes to hoops, it's more than just dollars and cents and what shoes and uniforms the team wears. It's recruiting networks and players. Maybe the FBI investigation has changed things, but if it didn't, there is more to consider than just $.

From what I heard Nike was always going to lock it in and the others weren't serious players.

Adidas is under scrutiny. UA is broke. Neither are beating down our doors anyway. I’m sure Wildhack has done his due diligence.

I’d prefer we improve upon our current relationship with Nike.
