I have never coached but i did play in HS and have been watching Syracuse since 62. I just got done watching a few games over and im convinced that Mack is a major problem. Actually a huge problem. For the life of me i dont know why certain posters say that he is doing a good job. He is getting killed. There are too many plays to mention that Mack is blown away and or requires help. Im sure that Allport being hurt is a major reason that he is still playing but if doesnt gain 25 pounds of muscle in the off season there is no way he should be on the field next year. None. The other thing that i noticed is just how poor our LB's are. Weak at the point of attack, and unsure to the point of either being out of position or simply confused. I remember back to fall practice someone posting that we were going to be weak up the middle on both sides of the ball and having watched a few games over again i think that this has been our major problem.

I'm not worried about the backers. Once we get a steady influx of them they will have a year to RS and put on 5 or 10 pounds of muscle.

As far as Macky goes, I don't know enough about line play, to critique anyone. But common sense tells me that last year we had what appeared to be a vastly improved unit, and this year it seems to have completely regressed. Not good, and a little more than coincidental.

I don't think the people defending Macky are necessarily wrong, as I am sure you can pick out many good blocks over the course of a game. Unfortunately, the nature of the beast is that you can do real well on 50 plays, but the one or two that get by will dictate the sort of game you had. These teams are just able to focus on the middle of the line and know that between Macky and the conservative play calling there is a good chance they will either stuff Bailey at the line OR force Ryan to make a quick decision.

Center is critical. Is as important as Left T. He is a major liability. Again im sure he is a great kid but he should be playing for an Ivy. It is really too bad he came to Syracuse i feel badly for him because of his Grandfather but he isnt a D1 center not by any stretch.

Nassib is a big problem and not the answer. Stays in the pocket to long, doesnt know when to throw the ball away, his mobility is mediocre. Not to accurate and is only playing because we have noone. With a better mobile qb we are atleast 2 games better.

C'mon dude, everyone knows this kid ain't perfect. But this thread has nothing to do with Nassib. Yet you jump in and flame a guy that has a good chance of walking off of SU campus with a lot of the more important passing records, perhaps a winning career record as a starter, a degree, and no dramatic off-field issues. For God sakes, as much as this year stings, we could be very good next year.

He sure has had some great games. I put the bad ones much more on the line than on his talent. I always thought he lacked touch on his passes, but the kid has a winner's attitude. He has engineered a surprising amount of clutch drives this season for a team that is about last in the nation in total offense (AGAIN).

You are way to sensitive, i call it like i see it. Tell me what i said wasnt true. Hes not the answer and this is no flame. Im a realist.

Macky's not the whole problem. It doesn't help that Chibane and Hay are getting killed by their men. There's a break down between one of the two almost every play. Hay's a nice run blocker but he is a swinging door when there's a pass rush. Chibane has struggled this year. So has Till. Macky's been a problem at times. The only lineman that consistently is able to handle his guy is Pugh. We get pressure from everywhere. You can't single out Macky and not name the others.

I agree, I haven't watched the line play as closely as others have but when I see pressure on nassib it's typically near chibane or hay.

I dont agree. Mack doesnt hold his own very often. The only time i see Mack performing is when we run plays that require him to get out in space. When we try and run power or in a straight drop he is destroyed. Not beat but simply destroyed. Please take sometime to watch a couple of games. Fast forward so that you can just watch us on O and focus on the line come back and tell me what you see.

How about throwing the ball away? I can't think of one instance this year where he was either outside the pocket or could have easily slide outside the pocket and thrown the ball away instead of taking a sack. I have two bozos that sit near me and yell every time that Nassib is sacked to throw it away. You cannot just throw it away or it is a penalty anyway which is the same as a sack.

How about not too accurate? He sucks at the deep pass. We all know that. But he makes a lot of on the money throws in tight spaces.

How about he stays in the pocket too long? He actually is more likely to move outside the pocket rather than stay in or step up in the pocket.

How about with a mobile QB we win two more? Seriously? Have sacks been an issue this year? A mobile QB in this system won't make a huge difference. And are you sure that the coaches aren't telling Nassib not to run because there is no #2 QB? He showed vs USF that he can scramble and extend drives. He certainly isn't a threat with his legs, but if your O requires a QB's legs to bail you out all the time then your O isn't very good and won't score a whole lot.

I watch the games, and I enjoy watching line play since thats where I was in HS. Macky's not getting pancaked every play. Like I said before, he hasn't been great. He's been serviceable. We're a zone blocking team, and he covers his zone. I would like to see Trudo play there next year, don't get me wrong. Not sure why you love to start the Macky lynch mob every week.

fact is he is better than the qb several of the teams we lost to put on the field.
Interesting bees im not buying what youre selling. Dont agree 100%

uconn, rutgers, cincy. and it's not close. and usf might be a push.

If all talent around the QB is even:

Collaros
Smith
Bridgewater (based on youth/upside)
Nassib
Daniels
Sunseri
Savage
MacEntee

Macky is definitely an issue, his frame will not allow much more weight, time for Trudo, Chibane and Hay have been bad too.

Agreed...other than Pugh the OL is inconsistent at best. What have you heard about Trudo's progress? Hopefully he and the other RS OLmen can push for starting roles next season. Fingers crossed on Hickey's health!

Last year, we had a better off-tackle runner in Carter, a very good run blocker at TE in Cruz, and a full-size senior center in Bart. We also had a second RB. The difference is not just Macky; he has his strengths (quickness; smarts; good snapping), but there is no getting around the fact he is 255 lbs. Good middle weight going up against bigger, stronger opponents.

Not clear what Marrone can or will do about this. He is very loyal or very stubborn; put this OL in place in the early Spring and never experimented. Even when he had healthy back-ups.

As for the LBs, no surprise there. Other Big East teams aren't relying on RF and soph LBs as much as we are. By 2013, our crew will be good.

Macky might be ok if SU was running an option attack. But, that's been the problem all along. Marrone wants to run an NFL offense with D2 personnel.

I hope to see a completely retooled OL next year with the exception of Pugh who is far and away our best lineman, or we are in big trouble. Nassib's two biggest weaknesses IMHO are his poor accuracy and tendency to panic when he feels the pocket collapsing (which unfortunately, happened a lot this year). Given more time in the pocket and receivers who catch the ball consistently, Ryan would be a very serviceable QB. He really needs to work on his touch though this off season especially on the deep routes.
