Northeastern Postgame

The thing that really bothered me is the number of transition baskets because of laziness getting back on defense and the number of totally open 3 pointers Northeastern got with no defender within 4 feet of them. No real hustle nor urgency on defense. Our double teams where one pass found a totally open player. Occasional swarming under the basket for a rebound but with no one physically boxing out an opponent. Watching 50-50 balls but not moving one’s feet to get them. Just very disappointed in our defensive effort tonight.
We haven’t got a 50/50 ball since the Tennessee game. I can’t remember the last time one of our players dove on the floor.

Cross posting this… Such a shame Red is good people and this is a team full of good kids and some serious athleticism and talent. The coaching chops and tenacity needed are not there. Honestly it’s like we have the most athletic roster of choir boys in the country out there with everyone’s favorite camp counselors leading from the bench.

Kingz was supposed to be a sniper. Instead he’s laying brick like he’s on a union job.

18 for 62 from deep including 1 for 5 today. That’s 29%. That’s not just bad, it’s bust-tier.

Last year at Oregon State? 40% from three. So what happened. Did the Dome swallow his jumper whole?

We brought him in to stretch the floor. He’s stretching my patience.
It's really puzzling that he's been so good at everything but the thing he had a reputation for.

This team will play up or down to their level of competition all year long, with the exception of elite teams like ISU and Duke.

I doubt that level of inconsistency gets them into the NCAAT. This is looking like another lost season unless Donnie is somehow the difference maker taking this from a mediocre to good team.
SU went into today's game with a NET ranking in the 90s. With Clemson being the only decent team on our schedule during the next month, we are pretty much guaranteed to have our NET in the 90s or 100s range a month from today. We are one of the few teams that plays all of our games at home or at neutral sites the opening two months. The way we struggle at home against inferior opponents, it's hard to picture us jellying in road games. The NCAA Tournament looks like a pipe dream right now.

Sans another bad Q3 or Q4 loss. This season is likely decided by our ability in the stretch we have from Miami to the end of the season. Hopefully we can rack up all of the wins until then (old Syracuse would). Would not want to lose more than 2 games until then.

Scored 91. No problem with the offense.

Seriously, it’s hard to care at this point. I spent most of the afternoon watching football.

This team has enough talent to beat some decent ACC teams. Doesn’t seem like they have the focus and energy to do that consistently through 18 games though.

Guess we’ll see. Whatevs.

Refs called a very tight whistle and we hit way more free throws the norm

We play at NC State at Duke at UNC at UVA and at Louisville. Of those 5 games need to probably win 3 (maybe 2 if one is Duke) and not have any bad losses and maybe also beat UNC at home.

Except for Clemson every team we play in the next month is a Quad 3 or Quad 4 opponent. I don't think we can afford a loss in any of those upcoming games during the next month and maintain any serious viability for an at-large bid. We are going to be way out of contention in the NET a month from today. It is really going to be difficult to turn things around starting the last week of January. Go Orange!

I was looking at the schedule. I believe it’s 8 of our last 9 games are currently Q2 or above. That’ll be when boys become men

The center position isn’t the biggest problem, the #4 spot is. We miss Freeman and his backup Sadiq hasn’t come close to filling his void sadly. We need him to defend and rebound.
sadly sadiq is a 3. gonna be a slasher not a banger. even against mid majors.
