Notre Dame Post Game

We watched Joe Girard in questionable shape for years and run out of gas in 2nd halves repeatedly... Then he goes to Clemson for his final year and gets in the best shape of his life and his foot speed measurably improved and stamina in 2nd halves improved considerably.

Good programs ensure players are in shape...

If needed, they put players on regimens with nutritionists, customize workout and training sessions for players, set and track weight goals, etc.

Eddie looks and plays like he needs this.
This 100%. The whole culture around the Cuse basketball program needs to be changed, with the strength and conditioning program being a HUGE part of that change.

Even good players can still be contributors at this level imho, as in bench players. But if you are depending on them to play too big of a role, then you have what we're seeing.

This is missing the boat. Teams with less talent than us are competent. They can play defense and they can run offensive sets that create open shots. Yes, better players are required to win at elite levels, but we are a Quad 4 team right now. That's who we are competitive with. There are 100 college coaches who are better at X's and O's than Red, without question. He recruits well so far, but how long is that going to last if he can't coach at the level of LeMoyne, Colgate and Cornell, where we barely squeaked by on talent, not coaching.

COVID tho

Regarding posts by diehards who have hit the wall, a similar sad commentary-
My grandkids watch the Knicks with me and really getting into hoops-
Would like them to become SU hoops fans also.
But for now, shielding them from the pain. That plan is on hold waiting to eventually have a chance.

Agree with posts saying that Red looks like he knows what's coming. I feel bad for him.
SU hoops needs to call 911. Waiting another season/riding this out will bury the program even deeper.

This is very accurate. What does Ryan Cabiles even do? The team has had major Strength and Conditioning issues since 2015ish?

Cabiles has been here for years. Very little strength put on our players year after year. Seem gassed often.

It’s a number that has NO HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE with our basketball program!!!

Other than the players wearing it in 2 of our 3 championship game appearances. <SMH>

2 of those 3 players couldn’t care less about anyone wearing it. SMH more vigorously than you. Lol.

All the people talking about wasting money on their season tickets? I feel you. But I'm going to be there wearing orange and enjoying my nachos unless I'm dead.

All the problems of the late Boeheim era persisting, arguably getting worse. Autry is getting this year and next no matter what, but this team better be unrecognizable by March of 2026, or he is getting fired into the sun. Just awful.

I'm not so sure about that. A bad season is forgivable for sure, but a total tailspin? A 6-win season is an actual possibility right now. I don't think the AD has a choice if that happens.

I’d be shocked if this isn’t being done with Eddie and all the players. We have nutritionist on staff in the AD now.

I do think the S&C is quite poor and has been for awhile. Regardless of the players coming in, none of them seem to have improved their physique.

Seems like the only guys that were strong came in that way (Oshae, Battle, Guerrier).

I'm not a basketball guru by any means, but my observations today (and in general):

- The ND guy guarding Carlos was either horrible at defending, or intentionally letting him get by him, and almost nothing ever came of it. Unsure how he can get to the elbow so often and nobody is open to kick it to
- Donnie is one of our bright spots at times, but for once I'd like to see him try to slam the ball when he drives instead of making himself smaller. I know he's gotta get stronger, but still...
- Davis is oddly good at playing bigger than he is inside against bigger guys. Not sure how he gets his shot off sometimes, but when he's on, it's enjoyable (duh). Nice to see him know his role is inside the 3 point line
- While he basically did nothing, Chance looks comfortable with the ball in his hands and I hope continues to get his legs back
- I feel this happens every year, but how can another team set screens so well to free up guys, yet we always set screens and move away 2 seconds before the defender gets there? This is a thing that has bothered me for ages
- Seemed there were times we had good mojo going and then suddenly 2 guys sub in. I'm not smart enough to question the coaching, but I did scratch my head at times
- Lampkin... He deserves his own summary - I feel he's a polarizing figure. See below

My view on Lampkin when all parts are placed together, is a somewhat overall positive. You didn't ask for them, but here's my views on him:

THINGS I LIKE
- Enthusiasm and desire. Little things like going out of his way to shake hands with all 5 of the opposing team at the tip are nice to see in today's world
- Court vision - by far his most positive attribute, in my opinion
- His screens are the best on the team (not saying much). Especially the "turn my ass into your nuts and push you away" screens. I enjoy those (seeing them - not receiving them)
- He does a fantastic job of jumping straight up with his hands straight up when being driven at, and letting his big body take the impact to disrupt the attacker

THINGS NOT SO MUCH
- Every time he dribbles, my butt puckers up. He often bounces the ball up to his chin (giggity) and away from his body
- Conditioning (not sure how he'd hold up without injury, so I'll leave it at that)
- Rebounding. I HATE THIS. It seems like he tries to rebound with 1 hand 90% of the time (official stat), and often loses it to another player or out of bounds. Maybe since he's not jumping much, he doesn't reach up with 2 hands? I don't know but GRRRRRRRR
- Inability to stay in front of a defender away from the rim
- When he finally gets a nice dribble move or spin, he can't go toward the rim due to his size, so he fades away but has no arc on his short shot

Okay that's my novel for the year. Not sure what possessed me to put this in writing today.

Gmac worked with Bell? I thought Gmac worked with the guards and Straughn the forwards.
I seem to remember the announcers talking about it a lot last season. Men's basketball is not my #1 sport as a fan, and I don't have any insider info, but it would seem reasonable for an obligate shooter like Bell to at least get some pointers from the all-time great shooter on staff. And I don't have any other explanation for how badly he's fallen off from both a results and effort standpoint.

it affects my day and honestly how i feel in general. sucks being a diehard fan.
It affects all of us who bleed Orange. I am here to offer some assistance as I am a huge Red Six FSN in my late 60's so I went decades of bitter disappointment. Look at the entertainment value of going to game. Look for hope. My take is if my Sox can win in my lifetime four times now, so can S U win again.

I don’t care about the recruits. None of them are important enough to keep a coach who isn’t the guy.
Not according to some.
I remember in Feb of 23, Steve Infante thought the notion of clean house was ridiculous. Said you didn't want to do that to lose this class of freshman players and a guy like Justin Taylor, lol.
Point is White and Kiyan could be a bust, you never know and that's why you have to bite the bullet short term sometimes to make the right long term coaching hire.

On the bright side tix will be cheap on 2nd market to where I can afford to bring kids to games
I've been planning on going to the SMU game in Dallas but I'm having second thoughts with the way the team is playing. Too depressing.

If Babers era is any indication, prices will come down hardly if at all.
