Obviously, Something Happened

the kid wasn't shop lifting. That was the point you missed. Would they have made a white kid strip in front of everyone in the store? Of course not.

I didn't miss the point. You should stray from making universal statements when it's just your opinion...I've handled cases where caucasion people have been humilated, so don't presume what I'm missing when you apparently do not have the broader knowledge in which to speak from.

It was actually pretty clear you missed the point. I'll remember that in future posting with you.

Talked to Mike's father the other day and he is not in Syracuse where he would be if this was worth his time. Tell the competition to put up their signs," Clap, clap, clap," as Mike is thinking about putting 15 assists up on them and nothing else. He's like every other young kid in America on their free time, having some fun, other than he dishes the rock better than most. Have a great night!
Are you related to Cali?

Is that like being on double secret probation or something?

Race aside, what kind of dumbass goes into a mall with a backpack on? Even if the reality is he is completely innocent, one has to question his judgement. Kids are kids and maybe i'm out of the loop of what is considered cool these days, but who the hell goes into a mall with a backpack. I keep getting back to Lord & Taylor...if nothing else, his street cred is gone forever.

why would anyone who's "truly innocent" let barney fife cuff them ? i sure as hell wouldn't. be a major dust up first!

Backpacks have been associated with hip hop style since the early 90s.

So...yes...you are old.

Maybe a kid who never stole anything in his or her life. They wear the backpack and don't give it a second thought.

Barney was about 6'7 and pretty well built. You want a dust up with him, be my guest.

FWIW pertaining to Scoop, I was not of the opinion that something obviously occurred due to the root source of the rumor and brushed it off as pure internet innuendo. That story was pure fabrication, this one isn't. Something really did happen here, though, for obvious reasons, I doubt we'll ever truly know for certain...

I see.

I commend you on your ability to distinguish between pure internet innuendo and conjecture that you automatically accept sans evidence.

Thanks. As far as age, I went to Beastie Boys and Public Enemy concert at War Memorial in the late 80s as a high schooler, saw EPMD in East Syracuse shortly therafter, among many others shows back in the day, been listening to NWAs first album a lot lately as I work out. 50 ct, Kid Cudi, Lil Wayne, Girl Talk...I like them all. I get hip hop culture. Had two turntables and mixer in my basement in 1989. I got it before MCW was born. Going into a mall with a backpack on is weak at best, but he was in Lord & Taylor's so lets stop talking about hip hop style right there.

Lord&Taylor - could be looking for christmas gifts for mom.
Has anyone 100% confirmed that it was L&T that he was escorted out of? FootAction is right next door, would make more sense.

That's all good. You said ..."maybe i'm out of the loop of what is considered cool these days". I just answered, yes you might be.

You asked why he went into the mall with a backpack...and I'm suggesting it might be the same reason KD wears one at a press conference. Was just pointing out that it is considered "cool" in some circles.

But it was ambiguous to the point that all parties settled it then and there. But, if I were JB, I would have him in plain clothes for a few games.

You don't what is an apporpriate response until you know exactly what happened. We may never know but I'm sure JB does. It's his decision, not ours.

BRAVO...a judicious and sane comment!

Durant and who makes wearing a backpack part of hip hop culture since early 90s? Its possible i am indeed completely out of the loop. I'm a corporate executive type who often travels with a backpack so not knocking backpacks. Wearing a clock around your neck was part of hip hop culture too for awhile and i'll say flavor flav was a dumbass too. You wear a backpack into a store, you are asking to be scrutinized, your view of 'its part of the culture' not withstanding.

You are a hip hop fan and don't remember the backpack era in the early 90s? Really?

Here's an article to catch you up:
http://www.vh1.com/music/tuner/2011...ce-of-backpack-rappers-in-mainstream-hip-hop/

Also, I'm not DEFENDING him...again, you asked if you were out of the loop. You seem bummed about the answer. Sorry.

I see.

Thank you. But taking each situation on its face, I didn't find it that difficult to dicipher between a pure fabrication and something (whatever it was) that actually happened between MCW and L&T, that is not in dispute. I have neither automatically accepted anything nor taken any position. I only stated that basically something of relative significance happened for him to be detained and cuffed by security...

All last 5 yrs, none early 90s. Recent phenomena. Not bummed, just don't think its a widespread 'cool factor' to wear a backback wherever you go. One thing to wear your backpack out and about, another to head into a mall and all I am really saying is if wearing backpacks into stores is now cool, whoever decided that was cool is a dumbass. You have every right to think its cool.

Ooof...this is embarassing...

I should add, I never said I think it's "cool" like you alluded.

I answered your question why he might have a backpack on in the mall.

We can end this, but in 1993 - or ever- black moon wasn't cool, backpacks or not.

Okay, spin it as you wish. But the premise of your original/reply appeared to focus more on what the cops made the youth do as you specifically pointed it out, etc., etc. vs. oh yeah, by the way, he wasn't shoplifting...And, the fact that he was black...and, that you are white. Moreover, that a white person would have never had to endure such a thing. Therefore, my retort was geared more toward that, whether you believe this or not, white people, along with other races, have endured such humilation and embarrassment in similar fashion.

I want to know what happened. All I was saying was that I don't know what happened. And neither do you. What don't you understand about that?

Don't tell me what I know and don't know. Just because you don't know how to connect two dots doesn't mean I don't either.

Generally, a store employee needs some probable cause to detain someone.
It is EXTRAORDINARILY unusual for a non-violent detainee to be physically constrained.
That is almost asking for a lawsuit.
There are some major questions surrounding the "misunderstanding" here.

Oh, so you were there and you know. Interesting...
