OC Rumors

The concern with not brining in a new system is that the current one even before this years emphasis on running has been figured out by D coordinators. In DBs words it’s Red and Rotten.
I agree that is going to be difficult to get an OC under the current circumstances. However if the university provided a two year contract around $1 million a year you may get better choices.
It all depends on what the university wants. If it is important to try to retain DB and give him the best chance to be successful they will pay the money. If they kept DB because of the buy out and merely need to get through next season regardless of success then they will not spend the money.
I feel the hire will really tell if the university wants to retain DB after 22 or not.

Good analysis.

You gotta think we have one picked now and just waiting for a bowl game to finish up?
Why would we do that? Seems like no other program is waiting for bowls to finish or early signing period. They are getting g the coach in place to help their team with recruiting. I was a big DB fan when he was hired. Now I’m just done. I just do not think DB can fix the problems and we will flounder another year until he is replaced. Probably a good reason we do not have an oc in place yet.

Given that this is potentially a one-year job, we're not high on the pecking order and there are more dominoes to fall. Even lower level guys might hesitate if there is the possibility of moving up with a vacancy opening up elsewhere. If they want to grab someone quickly, you have to go after someone unemployed looking to break back into the business. And to be honest, I think that's the best approach here. Grab a retread looking for redemption.

So you think the BOT and chancellor have wanted to hire JB for years but have been prevented from doing this by the AD?

Thanks, I needed a good laugh.
I just noticed the asterisk about tubas in your signature and it is gold.

Here’s a question on the lack of an oc higher at this point. Is it possible that DB is telling potential candidates that he wants to retain the current offense and that is a reason we cannot get a hire? If I’m a up and coming oc I would not go to a school that the hc would limit my ability to implement my offense which is the reason I had been successful up to that point. Especially if I was told I had to run an offense that has been stagnant at best.

If we do its getting kept on the down low in the media until after the early signing period, as long as the recruits know im fine with this

I do not. I think he is still working down his list of candidates and that the ones at the top have likely passed or chosen to go elsewhere. It makes little sense for a coordinator to stay past a bowl game unless it’s the CFB playoff. Once they have accepted another position, what is the point of staying on to coach the Sun Bowl or Motor City Bowl? I am anticipating a hire that either no one has ever heard of before or someone who has been out of coaching for a few years. It’s likely a 1 year job at a P5 school with below average pay and facilities.

I have a hard time believing Bailey or anyone at Syracuse.com would not break the story.

This.

... It will be late in the cycle when the musical chairs stop and new oc announced. Portal and JC transfers will have have been thinned out, and the hire will not be very inspiring. It's what happens when you extend a struggling HC into a lame duck year 7.

Expecting an FCS journeyman type on the tail end of his career.. Will be right price for what we"re looking to spend year 7 and guy will like swan songing his career at and FBS P5 school, bucket list checked.

Hope I am wrong and we get someone more dynamic, of course.

The Ligashesky hire was a quality hire, but getting a quality OC is significantly more challenging in our scenario methinks.

I don’t think the reporters know. One thing about Dino. There are almost no leaks. I think it’s his #1 rule.

Contrary to previous staffs and hoops.
this is true, Dinos coaching hires are usually a surprise

Money talks so its hard to say

That’s the point. They would, especially Bailey, he’s done it before. He’s burned that bridge and it’s a reason why nothing is shared with them off the record.

I think we should go for the Pitt guy. His system fits our current squad. It is unique and gives us an identity. It is a PIA to prep for. I am sure he is waiting to see if Narduzzi picks him as OC. If not go grab him.

Pointless to install a new offense now. It will take 18 months for us to see the results at the earliest. He doesn't have that kind of time. An up and comer is not coming and not recommended. Give me an old guy who's seen it all.

Certainly makes sense to discuss what options are available for filling our OC slot. Stating Dino is a professional procrastinator is the equivalent of click bait. No basis for stating that in any way. If there is I would like to hear facts behind it to support the position. Maybe an announcement comes Monday, maybe the coach has been selected and the coach is playing the bowl because he is not leaving his prior team in a bad spot. Just because a coach bails on their team, doesn't make it the right thing to do. No I am not a Dino fan, I just believe there's a difference between fair criticism and people just being bitchy.

OC money is a lot less than head coach money

Yes, but do you really expect we will be spending big $$ in lame duck year 7 for Babers on a top tier OC that would need at least a season to install his new playbook and get it semi-effective??... Or that a top tier OC would even sign-up for such a situation??

depends who it was truthfully and what the administration thinks has to happen next year in regards to wins and losses. I dont think it will take a full year for the playbook in most cases assuming we can have spring practice unlike in 2019.Top tier OC is looking to become head coach so no chance but G5/Fcs OC or positiion coach at p5 yes
