Official 2018 New York Football GIANTS Drive for 5 Thread

We remember those because it’s rare.

If I tried to remember all the times we failed to get in the end zone from the 2 yard line the last 5 years, my head would explode.

If we had a great OL, different story. I have zero confidence in our ability to get 2 yards when we need in, on any play that matters.
I am telling you Shurmur was smart with the decision. He showed he isn’t an idiot. He saw the big picture.
I get your frustrated with the OL but the HC showed he gets math.

I’ll tell you what tho... shurmur is significantly better than 70s pornstar mcadoo.

Tough situation but I like how he handled some of theee post game questions

The math thing is debatable and more nuanced than the #s geeks realize but one thing I know for sure. The NYG do not look like a well coached football team.

Your HC did the same exact thing as Shurmur 2 weeks ago against Minnesota.
The Eagles scored down 14. They went for 2 and converted.
They didn’t get the second score but if they did an XP would have won it.
It’s the smart thing if people look at the numbers. You get two chances to get 14 points and if you hit the first 2 then the XP on the second score puts you ahead.
More coaches are going to analyze the numbers and see this trend done more.

He is going to catch a lot of flax in the papers and on the radio. In NYC how he handles himself in press conference it does matter but bottom line is that the team has to believe in him and perform well.

Honestly I don’t really care. Im not upset with him. I knew we would lose anyway, and am used to it and expecting it at this point.

But I knew we weren’t getting in, we didn’t, and that was pretty much it is all I’m saying.

Why do it there? Wait until you get the 2nd td.

If he does it after the first TD he gives himself two cracks at getting the 14 points if they miss the first one.
14 to 8. If they make it then they just need another TD and XP.
If he misses then you get the TD and just need the 2pt conversion to tie.
Shurmur was correct in his logic.

A team scores a td with a 1 pt lead in the 4th quarter. They all kick the extra pt. They should go for 2. The other team would never go for two if they miss and they were down 7. And if they get the 2, they would be up 9.

I get the logic behind that, but this surprisingly isn't supported by the math that's used to support going for it when down 15. Going for 2 when up 7 actually decreases your odds of winning.

Depends when you go for 2 up 7.
Seattle did it with 2 minutes left against NE. They didn’t convert but if they did the game was over.
I wouldn’t do it in the first half but in a shootout game I would definitely deploy in the 4th Q.

I think this chart is a little difficult to read, but it attempts to adjust for how much time is remaining. I think if I'm reading it correctly, it still suggests taking the PAT in that situation:

All time BS back door cover by the giants .. were never losing by less than 4 after the first score until 5 seconds left .. amazing that THIS team could cover down 20-6 with a few minutes left

So an interesting 3-way trade could happen if the Giants wanted to move Eli.

Eli to Jaguars.
Derek Carr and 3rd round pick from Jax to the Giants
Giants first round pick to Oakland.
Giants get a legit QB of the future young.
Contend next year. Go down 2 rounds for the QB.
So u just trade Eli AND a 1???

Congrats KaiserUEO - at least you pulled off the huge fantasy comeback. I was pretty confident at halftime last night but as they say, anything premature is never good.

Don't have to be reminded. I was at the game.

Not every situation is the same. The NYG could do nothing in the red zone last night. That has to enter the calculus. Their chances to convert a two pointer are not the same as the LAR or KC. They have a very weak offensive line and a very immobile QB. Those two things alone make converting a two pointer a much lower probability than the #s guys think.

As soon as they scored I said, go for 2.

The problem was the execution (of which I’m in favor of the players...) they even did it on a quick count. They were trying to catch them off balance as opposed to a ‘presumed’ 2 Nd TD when they would have to go for 2.

They suck, why not do it too??

I hope u all now see how atrocious the OL is.

Even alsacs boy Hernandez was made the fool all game.

Solder is a joke...

Enjoy the 15 million for Solder. Belichick isn’t an idiot.

Quoting John McKay. I saw what you did there. One of the greatest lines of all time.

Yeah Hernandez looked like a turnstile on a few plays. Eli made some bad decisions tho.

My guess for the remaining trade before the deadline.
Leveon Bell to the Packers or Eagles for a 2nd round pick.
Patrick Peterson to Patriots or Eagles for a 1st round pick.
Ryan Fitzpatrick to the Jaguars for a 4th round pick.
