So we have Jim Brown, Dwight Freeney, and Chandler Jones on campus.

The sun is shining in Syracuse at this moment. Yay no rain!

He is with AE, his best friend.

He said he is having a good time so far.

I think that about wraps it up. Florida hasn't a chance. Who would they have on campus...TEBOW?!? ahaha

Its the NCAA's definition ... I posted a link earlier in the thread. The moment you contact a recruit with the intent to direct them to a school you are then seen as a booster for that particular university ...

I looked up the NCAA's definition and pasted it below. Note that a person who tweets a recruit has to (i) be known by the university, in conjunction with (ii) participating in certain enumerated activities/events listed in 13.02.13, in order to be deemed a "Representative of Athletic Interests" and thus, found violating 13.01.4. This is a high burden to meet. I doubt all people who tweet are known by the university to have participated as a (a) booster, (b) made a financial contribution to the athletic department, (c) assisted in recruiting, (d) assisted in providing benefits, or (e) promoted the athletic program.

Note that my conclusion is based on a plan reading of the text below. Unless there is NCAA official commentary which further elaborates on the rules below, I stand by my conclusion.

I can understand how some universities (like Oklahoma State) in an abundance of caution interpret the below to mean that ALL people should refrain from communicating with a recruit, but the plain reading of the below text does not support that thought.

-------------

13.01.4 Recruiting by Representatives of Athletics Interests. Representatives of an institution’s
athletics interests (as defined in Bylaw 13.02.13) are prohibited from making in-person, on- or off-campus recruiting contacts, or written or telephonic communications with a prospective student-athlete or the prospective student-athlete’s relatives or legal guardians. Specific examples of exceptions to the application of this regulation are set forth in Bylaw 13.1.2.2 (see Bylaw 13.1.3.5.1.1).

13.02.13 Representative of Athletics Interests. A “representative of the institution’s athletics interests”
is an individual, independent agency, corporate entity (e.g., apparel or equipment manufacturer) or other organization who is known (or who should have been known) by a member of the institution’s executive or athletics administration to: (Revised: 2/16/00)
(a) Have participated in or to be a member of an agency or organization promoting the institution’s intercollegiate athletics program;
(b) Have made financial contributions to the athletics department or to an athletics booster organization of that
institution;
(c) Be assisting or to have been requested (by the athletics department staff) to assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes;
(d) Be assisting or to have assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families; or
(e) Have been involved otherwise in promoting the institution’s athletics program.

Can you elaborate on OE's visit?

I wish I could... Just got the call he was really enjoying himself... When I hear anything more in depth, I'll share. Sorry.

If you are a preferred season ticket holder, you have made a financial contribution to the athletic department.

Not sure if a regular season ticket holder is also considered a representative.

Hooker's and cash do that! I'll be accepting donations to defray my cost thanks. ;)

Cool @thetruth35 according to Ebo he was hanging out with Chandler and Dwight earlier today

I'm ecstatic that Marrone got Dwight to come back to the university along with Jones for EO. Sometimes you have to pull out all you can to impress a recruit in this day and age.

And I think I speak for everyone in that nobody gives a damn if tweeting a recruit is against NCAA bylaws so quit bickering about it in here. Message each other and continue that useless conversation elsewhere so that we can be spared the time and actually get to the topic at hand, a.k.a the biggest recruit we are going for this year (arguably).

Then make your point or shut up already.
Someone wanted this thread to reach a thousand posts, but not like this...not like this. Oh Lord

A great woman once said "We can disagree without being disagreeable". Words to live by.

Doug has nothing to do with any of those guys being back. Freeney's always at Syracuse around this time working out with Hicks. I'm sure Chandler is too, but him, Rob Long, and Jim Brown were all up there to tape the intro video for the Meadowlands game. If Marrone had them up there for the sole purpose of speaking with EO it would be a violation anyways

Also, Ebo just tweeted that he's having a "good time up at the Cuse so far"

I could be mistaken but doesnt Dwight workout here every summer before preseason camp?

Update: Thanks Bnoro

It is quite the coincidence now isn't it, though? Everything just perfectly aligned.

I would think the "sole purpose thing would be an easy sidestep.Any number of things they could or would be doing as alumni. If Notre Dame could resurrect Knute Rockne to recruit kids who have heard of him they would do so while declaring the meeting as a miracle, acknowledged by the Vatican.:rolleyes:

Not complaining, but the trip timing is favorable to say the least, nothing wrong with trying to leverage the assets that are available.

According to some here, it would be a violation for these people to even speak to EO.

I made my point. It was pretty clear. I even offered a book recommendation.

You made no point whatsoever that was valid ... period ... you gain nothing of value from twitter ... and if you need twitter to figure out how intense a fanbase is you're either an idiot or know nothing about college football (Its pretty obvious which fanbases are intense and which ones aren't) ... you keep making the same statement with no substance and you made no reasonable point.

And you point to a book that all of 121 people read (and obviously no one here has read) and bothered to comment on to cement a weak argument ... see its instances like this that make me question that slice of paper they give you after you graduate and what its really worth.

But hey get on twitter and tell Ebo to watch Lord of the Rings and his recruitment will then make sense ... maybe he will see Muschamp as an orc ... or Brian Kelly will appear in a dream as Gollum ... honestly watching Lord of the Rings makes one smarter? Who would believe that crap? You would get a hell of a lot smarter reading the book ... at least you could then work on your vocabulary ...

According to what you posted it would be ... provided Dwight even gave a nickel to the school ... which I am sure he has done ... again if an AD can interpret the rules in that circumstance so could any governing member of the NCAA ... those rules are written in such a manner that they can be manipulated in various circumstances. You could have another AD interpret the same set a totally different way ... the only interpretation that matters belongs to the governing body.

Why are we still talking about silly twitter crap? It's irrelevant because it's impossible for the NCAA to crack down on this or every single school would be in trouble. Just agree to disagree so we can all stop reading the same thing with different words in it.

Can we have a sub section of the fine mess board dedicated to this twitter recruiting discussion?
