Ohio Postgame Discussion...

it’s Tucker. Then a cliff. Then a solid stable of RB 2s and 3s.

im still not sold on Lutz having the vision to be a traditional back for consistent RB2 carries. He needs some space.
I respect your take on this. I have seen Adams play in person and he has vision. Had he played last fall, I believe he would be the #1. Just my opinion, but Tucker, having played last fall, earned the #1 in HCDB's mind. I personally don't care because SU has the problem of who to play as opposed to we can't afford for XXXXX to not play. at least at RB.

Adams is def more explosive but I think Lutz makes a lot of good decisions with the ball
Absolutely, Cooper is really good in his own right. We have a real stable.

quick thoughts on TD

- didn’t need him to do a lot
- has played well vs lesser comp
- made great decisions running
- made a lot of good decisions passing
- showed *a lot better* pocket presence
- has confidence in his OL

quick thoughts on GS

- i know he didn’t come here to sit, but he should keep his head up, we’re going to need him
- he’s a big boy and can move
- it’s nice to see our QB1 play well and then see QB2 play and think he’s good too
My fear next week is Schiano is going to put 7-8 in the box, rush 5-6, and pressure TD into poor decisions while containing the run game.

Shrader needs to play next week

Some thoughts:

DeVito demonstrated growth. Made some nice decisions on the RPOs to keep, and had two plays where he got flushed from the pocket, kept his head up and completed the pass. That said, I don't think we're going to win many games with less than 100 yards passing so there is absolutely more we need to see.

We haven't had a work horse back like Tucker in a really long time.

Chestnut had about the best debut a defensive freshman can.

I suspect that had Rhino played we would have seen Shrader out there a bit more. Just my hunch, but my guess is a lot of what we would have Shrader in to do involves Elmore.

Really an excellent game from the defense. White continues to impress.

Not sure what to make of Rutgers. They piled up points, but they only had a few more total yards today than we did and our yards per play was better. Schiano is still playing garbage offense so I'm sure we can expect him to just try to junk his way with crap.

I am excited for what GS can do, I hope we see more of him. He just should hold off on the last second laterals, Dino did not look pleased

Garbage, junk and crap in one sentence. Absolutely classic

Alright, so I could see QB 2 effectively running the option / rpo all day behind the big boys on the OL and with Tucker in the backfield. Would wear out a defense. Once established, then bring back the old Donnie McPherson freeze option and step back for a deep shot.
Loved that play

BTW, I like Lutz a lot. I just think he’s more Erv Phillips-esque.

Im agreeing with you, I just think Lutz, imo, just needs a bit different of a situation than an Adams.

no idea how the Rutgers pass rush is, but in years past the OL would be not an asset when teams played us that way

with time, 7-8 in the box Tommy might pick them apart enough to get them to be more honest, then RB back at it

Well put.

Bottom line is we went on the road for our first game after a really dismal season, and walked away with a solid "w". Vanilla or some other flavor, it worked. Baby steps? Gain some confidence? I am feeling pretty good right about now. Lets relish this win.

Vanilla, and relish? Ewwww! :p

I fully expect Schiano to send the house at Tommy next week. We will get blitzed from everywhere.

You are probably correct. Two years of TD being shell-shocked because of no protection seems like Schiano is salivating at the idea of blitzing. If the OL holds long enough and TD takes a hit, he may se short passes and long balls end up with the same yardage.

Pfft, DeVito is going to pull a Sunshine from Remember the Titans, pull Bergeron aside and tell him to let his guy through, then jujitsu flip a Rutgers player over his back.
