@Oklahoma

Yeah.

At Norman isn't ideal, but let's be real, the Big East in 2012 sucks. We're not competing for a national title, or a good bowl game. We're trying to claw our way to 6 wins. We already have 1 against Stony Brook. So that's 5 out if 11 we'll need. We would have had to go to Morgantown and probably Ft. Worth next season, so taking a beating in Oklahoma ain't really the end of the world.

The only thing is: the other game might be @Temple. That leaves the CNY'ers short of home games. If we host Temple I wouldn't have as much an issue...especially if there was a fat guarantee for OK to show up in a few years in Syracuse.

Only 5 home games would be a big problem, SU cant charge full price for only 5 games and the few local fans like myself will be bitching up a storm.

Maybe the BE is waiting to see where we end up for OOC #5 before plugging Temple in.

I guess I just think a little different but I say screw it bring it on. We have a terrible terrible conference schedule and this sends a good message to recruits I think. It says that we are not afraid to play anyone at any time. I like the approach. So now we have 2 really hard next to impossible games. Then we have a bunch of winnable games. And what happens if we pull off an upset then what? What better way to get ready for the tougher games like Florida State, Clemson, Miami and Va Tech then to play USC and Oklahoma this year.

With the weak conference schedule I still see no reason why we can not make a bowl game. So lets go BRING IT ON!!!!

And I do understand about lack of home games that is the crappy part and understand the frustrations.

Scheduling a game at Oklahoma isn't worth giving up on the program. If the return game is in NYC, I can see why local season ticket holders might be annoyed to the point of giving up tickets.

I obviously don't think at Oklahoma, and USC in NYC is scheduling for success. But if it's true, I'll be glad we're not playing two FCS games, and be glad to know we never will again. Not the kind of success I want. The rest of the schedule really isn't that bad. We lost the two toughest Big East games (WVU and TCU). Northwestern loses much of their offense and they're not exactly a reloading Big 10 type. Minny hasn't been very good. Conference schedule, no matter how bad we looked against it in 2011, isn't all that daunting.

We already have our one FCS win. So we start the season 1-2 and we need to go 5-4 the rest of the way to make a bowl. Bottom line is that we need to win more Big East games and we probably need to win one of the two Big 10 games (that should be an expectation anyway for a bowl team). If we can't find 6 wins there, then we probably have more to worry about than how hard our 2 toughest games were.
I have no problem taking the @ss kicking @ Oklahoma for 2012 it would leave us with 5 H 5 A 1 N game and we could find a 6th home game somewhere, but my point is if Dr. Gross is going to sellout the home fan base but agreeing to a 1-1 series with OU and our home game is at Metlife then our home fans should be done with this program because Dr. Gross would be saying yeah I am going to take ALL the good non-conference games and play them in NYC and you the people of CNY can be bled for season tickets and pay to watch Stoney Brook, and average games. I am not a CNY resident nor do I live within 300 miles of CNY I fly in for 2 home games a year and give my season tickets to a SU friend's family but TGD is selling out those fans forever if he moves USC, Notre Dame and then Oklahoma.

I wish people would say Dr Gross is moving games away from the Dome. The reality is that he seriously upgraded the home schedule with the ACC, and some of thes glamour schools were never going to go to SU to play - just like SU hoops isn't ever going to go to certain gyms to play.

and the ACC wont be scheduled in NYC...ease up on who we play this year...if we wanted a better home schedule we should have paid to get out of the BE and gone to the ACC faster...but many did not want to pay the $$$$...you cannot become good without playing better teams. I know it may hurt if we get crushed by Oklahoma..but that is not so bad if we get upset by a North Texas...and i feel recruits will like fact we are playing the big guys.

I am happy with the ACC move 100% BUT STOP with this BS call a spade a spade if Dr. Gross is going to schedule the big boys in college and they won't play us at the Dome then go and find UCLA instead of USC or Oklahoma State instead of Oklahoma and play the damn games in the Dome. Its BS if we play @ Oklahoma next year and our "home" game is at Metlife its totally sticking it to your locals who are the lifeblood of the program. We only have 12k undergrads for us to be successful we need local non-alum fans and you can't piss on them constantly and expect them to come back. USC and Notre Dame AND THATS IT.

A quick question. Has it been published anywhere that this game would be played at Metlife? Or are we just assuming that this will happen? I hadn't read it anywhere, so I just wanted to know if I missed something or if we potentially are pissing over nothing.

Uh, they are doing that already. See Minny, NW, Wake.....

If the oh so loyal locals showed up in greater numbers TGD wouldn't have to be chasing revenue.

Screw the 10K that come out to see "name" teams and don't show for the rest of the schedule.

The complaint I hear here is that if there are 5 games in a switch season the local fan has to pay $19.80 a game to still have a pretty good seat to watch their team play (a vantage point that is club level in many NFL stadiums).

I personally think scheduling OU at this point given where the program is is insane, but from what I've been told Marrone isn't interested in scheduling for success.

All this angst over a transition year, yeesh. People need to suck it up.

Nope.

It hasn't even been published that we're playing Oklahoma in the first place. Just internet rumor and speculation.

Another issue with this rumor is when would the game take place? OU has 2 bye weeks (9/15 and 9/29). The Florida A&M game is on 9/8 so if they buy that game out, and we are not available until 9/29, then OU will have their 2 bye weeks back to back and then play eleven straight. I doubt they would want to do that. Only way I can see this is if we buy stony brook out and put the game on 9/15. That would mean having to schedule another 1-aa since stony brook has no openings.

9/29 would work out for a game @North Texas as they still need one more and that date is open as of now.

I'm entirely sympathetic to the CNYers here who clearly are insane about this program and go to the games. It sucks for them that we're moving some marquee games to NYC.

But as always this comes down to economics. Gross is no dummy, I can only imagine that the financial benefit to playing a "neutral" marquee opponent in NYC is higher than playing a different, maybe not-quite-as marquee team at the Dome in front of 45K. There's also the less direct benefits of having 20-25K NYC-area alums in attendance, including many the school wants to shake down for donations.

I also wonder if we had been in the ACC a few years ago if he would have made such deals to begin with?

I bet SU is receiving about $2M to play USC. I've seen the ticket pricing for the game. If they get 50k to the game (which I think sounds about right) the MetLife folks will still easily make over 7 figures even after paying SU. That isn't even counting parking and consessions.

Sad to say but CNY'ers getting a life and killing off 15k in average season tix sales has done this.

Oh so Minny, NW, and Wake are the big boys now? Our own chancellor was trying to move our home game(s) for Duke/UNC to NYC before she got caught by JB. When is enough enough. Is there anything you wont blindly support the Admin and Marrone on

LOL 20-25K in NYC alumni at USC? You are joking right, will be lucky to get that many total.

Read the post I was responding to.

Is there anything you won't reflexively be negative about?

Winning has nothing to do with attendance?
With the ACC money coming into the program now we don't need the extra 1 million when we can play at home. Somebody like you Mark I thought wouldn't make it about the money. If we were stuck in the Big East I could understand taking the money, but now we are safe don't play USC or the top dogs unless they will come to the Dome. I can live with Notre Dame and USC but the rest is a slap in the face of your fanbase.

Couldn't we offer OU to come north this year and schedule 2 return trips, 1 to Norman, 1 to Cowboys stadium? I'll come to home games regardless but I get needing a marquee matchup to have any fan that is less than die hard to attend. You could even make the OU tickets only avail through season tix or 2 or 3 game packages.

OU is willing to come to the dome, I saw them there in my first ever Syracuse game in 94.

You're an idiot if you don't think 20-25k alumni turn out for this game...

Edit: Name calling is going to cease here.

Trust me...I'd love to see all the marquee games at the Dome...but from a $$$ perspective playing a game every other year (on average) at MetLife makes sense.

Winning does mean more attendance in the NE...however, recruits just see a 60% filled Dome. If Cuse wants to be a Top 25 team the fans have to show up.

LOL yeah cause I have a post a day on this site bashing Marrone and the program. Sorry I am negative about SU scheduling a road game at a National Title Contender 6 months before the season starts and coming off a year we couldnt beat a horrendous UConn team that ran the same 4 plays all game to torch us or a Cincy team that started somethign called Munchie Legeaux at QB. Not to mention we allready play USC in a neutral site game plus Minn and NW. This team needs a bowl game desperately you dont get there by gettign your ass pounded at OK and losing god knows how many players to injury there.
