Option A: Bowl Game. This is what we all want, This is what Syracuse football needs, Syracuse football CANNOT afford a 5-7 season or worse, if they do that leads me to this point...

Option B: If Shafer does not make a Bowl this year that is absolutely it for this fan with Shafer. I know about recruiting implications when you lose the HC, but if he does not win this year he's out the door.

How come we CANNOT afford a non-bowl season? No one wants that obviously, but do you think one more losing season will cripple the program permanently?

We've made 3 bowl games in 10 years. I doubt going 3 for 11 is a death blow.

Um we've recruited the next 44 plus some other talented players recruiting impact is an understatement. I think you need to go out and generate the Buzz bring people to games better crowd better home field advantage maybe more wins. Its up to you.

Not sure why people are upset about the LSU game. We have Rhode Island, Central Michigan and @ South Florida already scheduled having LSU on the schedule is by far the biggest buzz game on the home schedule.

Typically we have scheduled 2 BCS teams in the non-conference this year we only did 1. Now I think USF is a trap game, but we have a good shot to win that game if we play well.

If SS doesn't need a bowl season to stay around the AD should just give him an extension now so people(including me) will stop bitching about the staff. If we know he is the guy just give him a 1 or 2 year extension. If he needs a bowl season to stick around it should be interesting.

Your last sentence sums it up dude. That is simply Embarrising in a game in which 6-6 gets you a bowl, the program needs to Figure it out. Syracuse is better than what they have been showing the last ten years.

6-6 is a must. Not like I'm expecting an ACC title here.

I understand. But it is almost ironic that because they have been 3/10 years for bowl berths they give HCSS at least another year no matter this year's results (barring the wheels completely coming off, of course). With the solid recruiting trail of late relative to the past decade, it's worth to say "alright, you've got the players, now do something with them." Letting him go after this year starts the cycle again, and in my opinion prematurely.

You almost have to give a coach 4 years at a minimum unless they are just beyond awful. You need to give him a chance for his first class to become at worst redshirt juniors and contribute.

Ups and downs in college football happen. It is just the way it is. This is my 52 year of attending these games, so I have seen a lot. I still say it was worse at the end of the Schwartzwalder years and through the Maloney years. The beginning years of Coach Mac was very frustrating too.

I agree. I'm not as old. I have been attending games since 1974 as a kid with my dad. I saw Archbolds last, and the Domes first. I was there for 87, I was there for the Robinson era.

If you are a fan, you're a fan. The sucky parts make the awesome parts feel more awesome.

If we weren't in the state we're in right now, then slaying LSU THIS YEAR wouldn't feel as nice.

C'mon you may not like me, but I don't want to be pessimistic. If I know it is futile to complain I won't. However, when nothing is said I give my honest opinion. I don't say things to be liked or disliked I am a pragmatist whether you believe it or not.

The LSU game Is the one that draws the most buzz from my non SU fans. That's the game they all want to go to with me.

One of these days we'll get a statement win but we have to schedule them to have that chance.

Here we go with the same post again and again and again! In case you didn't notice despite the all those injuries and awful OC the team was competitive in almost every game including top notch opponents. The defense was very good. Just stop living in the past. Every team has a bad season.

I am not the athletic director. I purchase 4 season tickets a year and give a donation. I am not a whale or have any pull. I can have an opinion and will state it. If the people who have the power make a decision I am not going to complain when it is futile. If the AD gave an extension(which I wouldn't) then it means they believe and the matter is done IMO.

Doing nothing is making this a make or break it season if they guy is getting a 4th year no matter what just give him a 1 or 2 year extension now and complaining about the coaching staff becomes pointless.

Again, my point about the extension is this. If SS is getting year 4 no matter what give him an extension now to help clear the air.
If this is a make or break year then not giving an extension makes sense.
Some people are saying he is getting year 4 no matter what happens this year and if that is the case leaving the contrac tthe way it is doesn't make sense.

Shafer has a 5 year contract. He's in year #3.

Barring a complete failure (2-10 or worse), he's getting year #4.

He doesn't need to be extended right this minute.
