Only 1 guy can truly turn this around

Do I really need to go back and look at the guys that g-rob brought in that went pro? Come on. G-rob couldn't coach. Marrone could. But he was a horrible recruiter. What qb did Marrone leave us with? How about running backs? How many Marrone guys are starting right now? He has been gone 3 years. The starters should be all marrone's guy's. They aren't.

Since P got fired, starting with the 2006 draft 26 players that P recruited were drafted or got free agent contracts, 13 that Robinson brought in were drafted or got free agent contracts, 21 that Marrone brought in got drafted or got free agent contracts.

Looking back at 2011 there were 6 Robinson starters on offense, 5 Marrone, 4 Robinson on defense, 7 Marrone, On the two deep and specials it ran 5 Robinson, 25 Marrone.

In 2012 there were six Robinson kids still on the roster.

Right now there are 10 Marrone kids that are starters and 9 others in the rotation or two deep, as well as Dixon and Norton.

Not sure where you get idea that the two deep in any program is filled with upperclassmen. It doesn't work that way anywhere, in particular in a program that was cratered, and constantly trying to recruit over kids, and hopefully accomplishing it.

The key is what position they play, no? Skill positions = no Marrone starters.

My god this is really getting old. Can't wait till basketball starts so most of these band wagon Debbie downers move back over there. There are atleast 15 threads right now about shafer getting canned or not. The bottom line is Marrone left zero playmakers, zero! Shafer can't coach up players? Unreal. Look at the freshman players from the beginning of the season to now. Huge gains! 70% of the offense is shafers kids. Their is zero arguing this. I'm so sick of all of this. The grass is not greener on the other side. Grob is the prime example. I really feel most of the people here have unreal expectations and probably would benefit in a new football team to cheer for. In a few years when we beat your new team with shafer it's going to be great.

1-85, and it's three years later. There's still many more Marrone players on the two deep now than Robinson guys in 2011.

If they weren't recruiting over players from three and four years ago with two bowls, the ACC, and facilities investment they'd be on their way out the door.

Good for them, they are doing their job.

1-85 means nothing if you failed to get anyone who can run the offense and/or score points.

You don't know much about football.

They went 7-4 with Hunt, how do you explain that?

Why is that as soon as someone disagrees with your opinion you instantly say we don't know anything about football. Unless you really think you're the next coming of Tom Landry then feel free and go on calling us all fools cause we disagree

You're right, being bowl eligible every year is apparently an unrealistic expectation. Also, your argument is specious. HCDM took a bunch of 2 star recruits and made them NFL players. Jut look at Hickey, Lemon, and Nassib! Are all of HCDM's guys starting? No, but again, I think there is at least a decent argument that HCSS and his staff have failed to properly coach them. Furthermore, the last time we had nothing but HCDM's guys we we won a bowl game. Are these underclassmen exciting? Yes, but our fundamentals are TERRIBLE! Just look at our defense's tackling, and HCSS was a DC!

Look you don't need to tell me about 2013. It was a better accomplishment than any season not 2012.

How do you explain Hunt 2014?

Everytime I read one of these threads the first thing I want to do is light up a blunt.

1. He was able to transform those guys, no doubt. He deserves credit for that.

2. That doesn't mean he did a good job recruiting their replacements.

3. The defense this year has been getting better. They are teaching the same techniques that have worked pretty well for 7 years. Guys are young.

Would be interesting to watch hackett work with this offensive talent. He had offense humming his last year. Shafer is an awesome dc and i wonder how many closed door conversations he has had with reid. The secondary is his baby.

Because saying 1-85 doesn't matter is ridiculous.

Playmakers are playmakers. There are more young playmakers on this team then we have had a very long time. That is due to shafer and his staff. Disregarding that is ridiculous.

This post seems ironic to me given the old OC.

People need to look at system when talking about offensive talent and evaluating the depth chart. Austin Wilson was actually a solid fit for the Marrone offense, but was a horrendous fit for the other 2 offenses.

We went from:

Run blockers on the OL w/ pro style attack utilizing play action to get WR's open and bruising RB's (Gus Edwards would have been elite here, IMO).
to
Spread designed to have OL that can get in space and an offense designed to utilize speedy or tall WR's to make plays after the catch
to
Mix of both OL w/ ability to hold blocks longer (due to misdirection) and designed to try and get playmakers in space (although I will be honest, I have struggled to figure out what this offense tries to scheme - still early for me and obviously hard to evaluate a first year offense w/ so many freshman).

While I liked Marrone, I don't think he is the fit here for now. While I like Shafer, I don't know if he is the fit here for now. But I am getting tired of seeing all these emotional threads.

Hack was horrible. He caught lightning in a bottle for one year he was really bad. One of the worst ever actually

You're taking that out of context. Every scholarship is important and every position is important. But it's important to hit on a QB in 3-4 classes. And WR.

Great points.

I'm not sure Austin Wilson would have seen the field with Marrone either. Is problem is reading coverage and panicking under pressure. Those are hard problems to fix.

Wow...I can't believe I am shocked in this thread. He is so bad he went on to nearly lead the Bills offense to the playoffs with little/no talent and now has Bortles looking like a really promising young NFL QB.

When he becomes a head coach in the next 5-7 years, you'll be very wrong.

He was bad for 3 years. He was okay in Buffalo.
