Oronde Gadsden II ... the "OG"

he reminds me of (holding my pearls) Aaron Hernandez. I hate comparing someone to a serial killer but on the field, they are very similar H back type players

Im not saying he is Kelce now. I'm saying Gadsden's skill set is best used the way KC uses Kelce. He might have to take that approach if he wants to have a sustained NFL career.

Gadsden catches the ball farther down field. Kelce catches it over the middle in traffic.

Travis Kelce is 6'5, 250 pounds. I think they are currently very differently physically.
Kelce is on the thin side regardless of weight (I know that makes no sense lol but my point is for example Antonio gates and Kelce have a different build regardless of being close in weight.) both OG and Kelce are tall and lengthy. Similar speed to the game I feel also.

Gadsden is a big tall kid playing slot WR for us right now, but we call him a TE. We don't ever line him up next to the tackle do we? If we do, I haven't noticed it, and I think i would as he would likely get blown up trying to block DE's.

I think Gadsden currently would project to play WR or slot receiver in the NFL. And to me that is essentially what Kelce plays as well. Kelce isn't a TE that plays lined up next to a tackle either, at least not often. If Gadsden gains 30 more lbs he could play more like Kelce, but adding 30 lbs may not be his body type. To me our offense and KC's offense just scheme using a larger body as the slot WR to find mismatches. Now we probably use Gadsden for similar formations that Kelce is used in but Kelce is obviously using his physical strength out in the open field to get open way more than Gadsden does.

As great as Kelce is I have a hard time saying he is the greatest TE of all time. To me a TE has to line up next to a tackle often and he doesn't. Kelce is just an elite very big WR. ITs almost like they need two awards. One for traditional TE's that are on the line and block a lot but can also catch passes. Then a separate one for hybrid TE's that mainly are lined up in the slot. Its two entirely different positions. Traditional really good blocking TE's don't have a chance at award recognition anymore because its all about the receiving numbers.

You are looking at it too casually. SU does some similar things schematically to get Gadsden open. Some stick and choice concepts in zone coverages.

Well said.

Kincaid’s description sounds like what Gadsden does. Problem is we don’t have a discount Diggs

I watched Kincaid highlights after he was drafted and instantly started comparing him to Gadsden. Like another poster said, first round mocks right now, and I expect him to stay there. Big year coming for OG. Enjoy him playing here while you can, this will be his final year.

Fits what PFF is saying. They have him top 50 already.

38) Oronde Gadsden II, WR, Syracuse

In the modern NFL revolution, the big-slot WR and move TE roles are becoming more and more valuable. Syracuse’s Oronde Gadsden II blends elements of both profiles together.

At 6’5″, 216 pounds, Gadsden outmatches any DB he faces, but he also has the smooth athleticism and foot speed to surge through creases in the field, and his hands are incredibly strong.

It would be a shame if Syracuse doesn't find another WR to pair up with OG to create havoc in the passing game. Someone else needs to step up this season.

OG has everything the NFL loves in a WR. He’s an easy pick next year, only question is how high can he go. I don’t think 1st round is crazy talk.
He’ll be a top 30 pick if he improves even marginally on last year. Size, skills and pedigree. Has it all.

Should be Adams from what I’ve heard
OG should be awesome this year. I expect them to move him around more this year which will mean more snaps at the slot position for others.

I wouldn't be surprised if Adams makes a big jump. Didn't play all that much last year but he showed glimpses of looking like he could be a real threat.

I expect getting Isaiah Jones back, who we did not have last year, to be pretty big. He was touted as being the most productive WR of last spring by Anae. He was probably a bit rusty in the spring but should be 100% up to speed in the fall.

And we should expect some natural progression from Alford and Hatcher as well as Pena and Donovan Brown. In all I think our WR group will be solid this year and the best we have had in a long time.

Also i'm guessing the addition of Clement to the TE room should help the offense as well. Not sure if he would be an upgrade yet in the receiving area but he looked like a natural blocker with a combination of size and movement ability which is still a very good trait itself in both the running and passing games.

As long as we bring all the pieces together for the OL and its healthy I think the 2023 offense could be solid. Sounds like Reed should be in Syracuse soon which would be a huge piece and a good start to improving that group. Still need to find another piece or two though and hopefully get Bleich healthy.

I feel confident in saying, for the first time in years, wideout/passing targets wont be a problem.

We have 4 legitimate ACC receivers in Gadsden, Adams, Alford and Hatcher. Id say Jones too but lets see what he does when healthy. He’ll certainly be granted more immediate reps than Hatcher.

But whats going to open up things for us is Allen.

If Shrader can get it the hell out of his head to tuck the ball if Oronde’s not open, we’ll be cooking. But part of that in our OL developing too which remains to be seen.

I can’t say enough how excited I am about Allen. But we need Price to be able to contribute too and protect the rock

Adams is discount Cook
Adams has good hands and that ever evading ability Dino covets, he doesn’t just fall over/get tackled after making the catch.

Just thinking this through, if both he and Shrader will be declaring for the draft after this season. We will be losing a ton right there. Good thing 24 schedule looks easier.

Going to be an awesome draft next year though and will be great for the program.
