OT -- this Drake game is a master class...

it’ll be interesting where McCollum coaches himself into a job. Reminds me some of Tony Bennett. Deliberate on offense and tough D.

Continuing to put on a show on the second half.

It's why I really like Ben McCollum. He just wins, everywhere he's goes. He's a midwestner so he'll prob take the Iowa job. But man if he doesn't and is free next off-season I'd call him ASAP
I fully expect him to be the next Iowa coach, and although a lot of their fans are upset about missing out on Devries, I think Ben is a better fit for them.

Everyone on Drake can Pass, dribble, and shoot. Meanwhile we constantly have to watch inefficient black holes at guard for the better part of a decade.
Agree in the main.

Rheir execution stands in marked contrast to what we've grown accustomed to.

His system with athletes at Iowa (assuming he takes that job) will be a problem like peak Virginia. They will pick teams apart.
But... NIL...

All things point to him coming to Iowa. Originally from Iowa City, significant pay increase, better conference, etc.

It must be pretty amazing that this game is in Wichita kansas, essentially a home game for missouri, and they're getting run off the floor by Drake.

March madness is the best.

I have not heard anyone upset over Devries. In fact many are not particularly impressed with him. Everyone here wants McCullum. Of course more people are talking Cyclones than Hawkeyes. The Hawkeyes have long lost their luster-at least here in South East Iowa. But people I know from Cedar Falls area, Davenport area, and Ames/Des Moines area that used to rave Hawkeyes simply don't anymore.

Drake fans are pretty deep there. Des Moines is only one hour further to Wichita than Columbia, MO.

...in how great coaching elevates performance.

They're doing this -- beating Missouri by 7 at halftime as a lower seed -- with multiple players who were D2 players last year

Impressive.
U think will wade would love to come to a name program and get the spotlight but instead we went cheap and didn't hire ourselves and and actual real basketball coach.

We should get him. we wont of course.

I like Drake. There system is effective and I get why people want their coach. That said winning in Drake's league with that system is totally different than winning in the Big 10 every night with that system.

Also shows you can find players. Gotta coach them up but players are out there
Yes to this. JB in his prime with the ability to handpick players for his system, would have been diabolical. Especially since he thrived off the under-recruited gems

Part of a quote from McCollum after the game I saw on ESPN. "I expected exactly this. I expected to compete. I brought winners with me. That's what I brought. I guess my superpower is finding winners, finding tough kids and believing in them."
I'd like a coach like that.

I agree, but I also think he would have better athletes and talent to run it as well.

Some posters immediately were banging the drum for McCollum when we knew JB was retiring. I see why. Drake, frickin Drake, would run our team off the court.

March madness is where the “it’s all NIL” argument goes to die. Regardless, superior coaching always is the priority IMO. Of course we want NIL also, but you need two to tango.

Pitino or McCollum would’ve been really good hires.
