Rick Pitino

I don’t see why anyone is getting this angry over Pitino not becoming our coach. At no point was that discussed anywhere except a pie in the sky dream on our board. No different than then Jay Wright chatter that pops up at least once a month.

Hopefully Wildhack has a very active shortlist going in anticipation of potentially changing coaches next season. I don't see Pitino ever being on that list, or Wright, but unless he has an unlimited checkbook, which is highly doubtful, we can probably close this thread.

Then, next season, if it doesn't start well, I am sure there will be plenty of threads and opinions on who should be the next coach.

And if people think a then to be 74 year old coach should get consideration, then they can give Wildhack a big check with Pitino's name on it.

My uninformed guess -- JW knows Red isn't up to the task and is actively managing lining up his replacement, probably has already had many conversations with his targets and has a good idea where it's going. His hands apparently are tied though by the BOT and donors so he has to wait it out. But there's no chance he doesn't see what the rest of us see.

They always have a list. They have to be prepared for anything. I think we saw yesterday there’s great coaches at every level.

That's the best thing about March Madness. People are definitely missing out when they say they are not watching it.

Some coaches get hot for their 15 minutes of fame, but are they capable of doing it as well as JAB in his prime for the next ten or twenty years. Isn't that what the fanbase wants? NCAAT every year, with a bunch of FF's, E8's, S16's?

Can Syracuse find and then keep someone like that. Wildhack and the BOT have a tough job ahead of themselves.

I always considered it more of an inside joke than anything else. Pitino is legitimately one of the best coaches of all time but SU needed a guy who wasn’t in his 70s and would be around longer than a few years.

Would he have won here? Yup. But it would be kicking the can down the road. Get an up and comer to rebuild the program.

How good of a coach is Rick Pitino?

there is no starter on the is season’s St John’s team that was a regular starter on last season’s St Kohn’s team.

Pitino has done a masterful job of developing talent (Zuby, Luis, and Wilcher) and integrating portal talent (Richmond, Smith and Scott).
He’s the Pat Riley of cbb.
