Paging Laray Smith

Hopefully he's going just because he's bored because otherwise the decision makes absolutely no sense. Mind boggling decision.

I have to think he's just doing it to officially visit somewhere else for comparative purposes. I think he only officially visited SU. Or I could be full of it and maybe he's been seduced by the power of the Paqualoni.

I understand how Carter might be interested in Rutgers because they claim they'll let him play rb. But how could Laray ever in a million years want to play in Uconn's offense? They were 112th in the country last year in offense and made no legitimate changes in the offseason. Oh yeah, and they don't have a conference!!!!! Who is advising these kids?

We should be able to sell these kids on what Syracuse has to offer before we go negative about UConn being a Mac level team and Rutgers lame offense. The Big Ten boring brand of football and playing in different time zones.

Running back is one position where you can find very good prospects almost every year. It is also a position where we really can't promise immediate playing time this coming year to an incoming recruit. With the number crunch we are facing, I would rather give offers to positions we really need to shore up, such as ol,lb,qb, and db. Would take Gus and or Laray in a heartbeat but won't loose a lot of sleep if we wiff here though.

Agree on more pressing need in other areas of team but Laray's speed intrigues me. He offers us a running style we don't have, plus kick/punt returner possibly from the start. Minor point possibly but would also like him to run track for SU and continue the improvement, vast improvement in this program. Coach P and program getting desperate. Can only imagine the promises they are shoveling him. Very proud, in past and recent history our coaches don't make empty promises. Love HCSS approach that if you don't WANT to be here, so be it. We will find the kids that want to. Side note, very impressed with the coaching staff put together. Seasoned, well rounded coaches with both pro, college experience and many as players in the pros!

First off, hat tip to whomever set up that CuseRecruiting twitter feed. Fantastic. Second, the NY Post prep writer Zach Braziller tweeted that he thinks Gus sticks with SU and Laray is going to UConn. Given the body types McDonald is going after in Florida/NC/MO, the staff might be preparing for that eventuality. Or maybe Stanback is the back-up for Smith? Similar speed, big production against better comp on the Island.

Why the would Laray want to go to UConn?
That's a great question. Their track team isn't that good, is it. Wasn't tennessee looking at him? I would think he'd rather go there if he decides SU isn't for him. They at least have a well respected track team.

i like that Braziller predicted that . he is wrong more then right a la ebo

I'm just wondering if Laray really loves playing football. Remember in the first Shafer presser, he talked about getting kids that loved playing football (gym rats). Laray may be a track man first and football second. You got to love the sport to play in college and have a shot at the league. Just throwing that out there.

If we lose him to Indiana I'll be shocked. Glad he's visiting there and not UConn.

Has anyone thought of the possibility of AE gettin moved to LB? I kinda thought that he might do what Doug Hogue did and turn into a LB later on for us anyways. I remember reading that his coach said he's still growing and could pack on 20-30 more lbs. Thats big time LB status right there. What if Miami is pulling a trick outta the Rutgers Playbook.

I also dont think we really have any need at RB. The coaches seemed pretty high on AAM and George Morris so they can pick up right where PTG and Rome leave off. Id like to see a Stud OT so that we can let John Miller be the guard he should be. (however I realize that is a long shot, better hope we can find a good tackle on roster)

That was my feeling from the article

Looks like at least a month afterward if he is waiting to see how he does in a track meet March 8-10. The fastest 400 time (high school-wise) in the nation is pretty darn impressive. The 400 is the longest race that you are supposed to sprint throughout instead of pacing yourself and IMO the toughest race to run.

Without a pay "barrier" I will limit this to being polite as possible. This kid IMO doesn't really want to commit to football. Gus is a much more talanted RB. Smith is a great sprinter playing football. Nothing wrong with running track, just need to make a choice.
