pasqualoni fired. gerg hired.

I'm wrong as Pasqualoni is out of work today because he is an utter failure as a head coach.

Keep defending the guy and his record!

I don't have much, if any. insight as to what happened at UConn other than he had next to nothing on offense when he came in and it doesn't look like he was able to add the talent need on that side. He did take and average defense to top 10 last year though.

And regardless, all that has less than nothing to do with the job he did at SU. Deny, exaggerate, lie all you want, it doesn't change the facts.

Good grief coaches get fired / pushed out, it's just the arc of the job.

In no particular order the dude beat Florida, Texas, Colorado, Clemson, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Auburn, Notre Dame, and got royally fukked against Tennessee and Oklahoma.

Stern thinks John Wooden underachieved.

So the team quit on their coach, huh? That's what I read into their reaction. If I'm the new coach, I cut every single one of the players that high-fived. Every single one. I don't want players who decide to quit on anything. Pretty sad.

At the end of the day, I would bet the new coach will clean house much like Marrone had to

Syracuse curmudgeon personified

Coach P might still have his job if he had pulled out a win against Michigan. Not like all of those losses were blowouts to lesser teams.

Kevin Rogers left a season after the Michael Vick Conspiracy occurred. Vick was all but signed by SU before some in Va. conspired with Va. Tech to keep that from happening. Rogers had no one to work with, had DeLeone back looking over his shoulder, and got an offer he couldn't refuse. No surprise that he left. SU screwed the pooch when they had a chance to get him back. VaTech screwed us twice.

Rogers took SU's QB recruits with him to ND.

His record includes these games:

Syracuse 38 Florida 21
Syracuse 24 Ohio State 17
Syracuse 31 Texas 21
Syracuse 28 Virginia Tech 9
Syracuse 28 Virginia Tech 20
Syracuse 41 Clemson 0
Syracuse 52 Virginia Tech 21
Syracuse 34 Wisconsin 0
Syracuse 33 Miami 13
Syracuse 38 Michigan 28
Syracuse 28 Virginia Tech 26
Syracuse 66 Miami 13
Syracuse 31 Auburn 14
Syracuse 22 Virginia Tech 14
Syracuse 50 Virginia Tech 42

Yes, you can make a list of bad performances, too. I've done that myself. But you can't be "an utter failure as a head coach" and win games like that. The big thing is that wins like these made the results on that other list harder to understand and less tolerable. Criticism is deserved, but not ridiculous overstatements.

Again, what happened at Uconn is not big concern of mine, but you are so wrong about his time here it's ridiculous.

167 games, 107 wins, 1 tie at Texas.

59 losses, 30 to teams that finished with 9 or more wins, another 21 to teams that finished with 8,7, or 6 wins.

8 losses to teams that finished with losing records.

5 losses to non BCS conference teams, '91 ECU finished 11-1 ranked 9th by 3, '95 ECU finished 9-3 by 3, 2000 at ECU finished 8-4, 2000 at Cinci that finished 7-5 by 2 on a 50 yd FG at the gun, and 2002 at BYU that finished 5-7.

Yep that's the profile of a guy that was in over his head.

It's interesting that you focused on his losses rather than his wins.

The argument was that he was in over his head, that would imply a significant number of losses to bad teams. I'd say losing 8 times in 167 games to teams with losing records, and only one time at home vs UNC, would counter that. Or people would be able to point to a large number of non BCS OOC losses, and the data counters that as well.

It could also imply bad loses to good teams: 0-49, 0-43, 0-62, 0-59, 7-51, 0-51, 14-51. And 8 looses to teams with losing records in 14 years when we only had one such record in that time is significantly bad. It's his victories- and all those winning seasons- that show he wasn't overmatched- and make the bad losses all the more vexing.
