Pathetic Press Conference From Shafer

hcss needs to maintain a sense of order. he does not. i had hope he had grown into the job but needs more time. i like the enthusiasm, but he needs to be more of a ceo persona, and add the home town touch. maturity, control, and wins make the day ---he can do that---temper the adrenenlin (sp)CALMLY move on

why? I'm serious, why can't he be an overly emotional successful head coach? Seems to have worked well for our basketball program.

We should just consider changing coach every three years we can fire the one coach because he called a timeout near the end of a game.
Then we fire the next one because his recruiting is not up to par after 3 years.
Then we can fire the next one because hes recruiting good, not getting penalties but we only have 2-3 acc wins each year.
Then the next one should be fired after two but instead sticks around for 3 and has a solid acc season of 5-5 and jumps to the SEC school.
Then we can get the new one and and maybe 3 years later we could have the ultimate college football lack of identity of all time. Quite a accomplishment.

Coaches job should be to make us a relevant ACC football program nothing more nothing less. 3-0 is great but being relevant in the ACC is the goal over time. We have to good of a football tradition to not be.
That's My thoughts as a Syracuse basketball lean whose second favorite sport is Syracuse football.

If our head coach keeps leaving the year after going 5-5 in ACC play, or can't get better recruits after doing so then we are in trouble. We are going to have to fork a lot of money into getting a miracle coach who changes the program and recruiting level based on his name. It would be nice but doubtfully would ever happen. We are in the ACC though, and make another couple million a year to do so.

You know, it seems like most coaches since Pasqualoni have been like that. Boeheim, too. By that, I mean an ignored need to expand comfort zones now and then. Makes them seem introverted and unprepared to deal with eventual realities in the long run.

Nobody is talking about the injuries but you

He doesn't have to go into detail or even talk about the injuries, nobody is arguing with you about that. But he doesn't have to act like an ass clown and piss all over the reporters either WHEN THEY ASK NON-INJURY RELATED QUESTIONS. Like I said, he hasn't earned that right

What non injury related questions did he not answer?

This is national football with millions interested in the sport, people are generally interested in hearing about injuries to their team. Notre Dame came out pretty quick with their injury prognosis, why don't we do the same?

What this has to do with class is what confuses me. I'm sorry, they're going to school for free, they're having an opportunity to show pro scouts what they have and the school makes millions and millions from the fans, sorry, we have a right to know.

Again, join the swim team if you don't want your info out there.

Trading your body for an education is not free.

If it pisses you off have your kids join the swim team.

We're a D1 football team in a P5 conference. If we're that sensitive answering questions about injuries then maybe we should move to DII.

This is big time football. Give me a break.
Absolutely. I'm sorry but going into this you should know that you're playing in front of a national audience along with a national fan base with national exposure. If you don't like it stay home, it's quite simple and has nothing to do with class. You don't get to pick and choose what you want exposed to the media and fans and it's ludicrous to even expect that. You sound worse than a soccer mom.

Actually, that is the point. He does get to pick and choose what is exposed and what isn't, pretty simple.

Now this is a pathetic press conference...http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/i...son_conducts_biza_2.html#incart_story_package

Change your focus here an inflict more damage to a recruiting rival and put the dagger in it's heart.

"Wilson then proceeded to go around the room calling on individual reporters one at a time like a school teacher. The first person he called on worked for Penn State athletics and was simply at the press conference to record quotes, so he didn't have a question. Later, he called on a photographer who was only filming, so she also didn't have a question."

That...was...AWESOME! LMAO

i would like to see people come out of a game like that and have to answers questions in a non emotional way.

Thank you. The guy was on edge, the franchise QB got hurt via a cheapshot and it was a nail biter. We are 3-0 but the haters now complain that it isn't artistically pleasing. Oh yes and injuries are not an excuse. We have way too many horsesh** fans. Fortunately plenty of good ones too

Thank the lord we have Scott Shafer as coach. I think he should be given a huge extension. We are 3-0 for the first in 24 years.

Where did I say that!?

Did SU win the game ? Answer Yes.

Enough said. All that matters.

Stop saying positive things. The Shafer haters now want aesthetically pleasing wins, just wins are not enough. Offense and special teams are way better, turnover margin is best in the nation and the front seven is playing well. Basically the secondary is the one poor area so far. But that isn't enough. Nor is doing this with a ton of freshmen and an already beat up roster.

Stop it. You are just as annoying as the people you're complaining about, which, if you've been here long enough to realize, isn't me.

The 5-0 post was gold though. I'll certainly give you that

Idk about HIPPO laws or whatever but if I'm an ACC HC there is no way I disclose ANY more info about my players than I have to.

I want my opponent spending as much time as possible in practice game planning for my Dynamic starting QB that isn't even playing.

It's frustrating b/c I'm dying for any Dungey intell but I don't get to know the playbook just because I'm a diehard fan.

Totally unsurprising that you have no respect for journalistic integrity and are totally on board with giddy propaganda.

Journalistic integrity? That's an oxymoron.

Shafer has enough to worry about on game day with his coaching decisions and the team's preparation. Maybe he could let journalists, however inept they might be, try to do their jobs without his heavy handed attempts to control information? It is not the press's job to help the kids enjoy the victory. He and his staff can do that. As I said, the press conference was pathetic in its revelation of his insecurity and need for control and was especially ridiculous in light of the reputation of Newhouse.

Journalistic integrity? That's an oxymoron.
