Class of 2018 PF Bryce Golden (MD) to Butler

So it appears the staff is still looking to add to the roster... as I said in another thread, JBs competitive nature wins again.

No guarantees we get this guy, but it certainly appears we are pursuing.

Huh? JB's competitive nature is why we'd be possibly going after this kid? Not the fact that we only have Oshae and Marek at ? We have 9 players, this would be a no brainer.

So, only two P5 schools on the list, with one really not be relevant in hoops for a long time, as I can't recall when the Illini last made the Dance. It would appear, based upon that list, we have an excellent shot. Hope we land him as it would certainly fill a need.

JB needs to bring this dude over to his house and get a photo of the two with the pool in the background...a la K did with Tucker last spring. ;):)

Illinois is bad and has no buzz at this point, even here in Illinois. Gotta feel pretty good based on that list at least

This would be a nice bounce back after losing out on Bazely. I don't think his ceiling is as high, but a high ceiling 5 star guy that stays one year likely doesn't pay as many dividends as a 3-4 star guy who'll stay his whole career. I'd be happy to land Bryce Golden.

Am I the only one that sees a 27 year old player here? Like that Happ kid

This is exactly the type of player we get roasted by when he plays for the other team. Just a solid player , nothing that stands out but he can shoot a bit, nice fundamentals around the hoop, not a bean pole and good enough size. I would be thrilled to add him. Seeing his highlights I am surprised Stallings actually managed to get a commitment after the way things had been going.

For who? Not for us next year. This guy is going to start ahead of Marek or OB? No. He is not.
Agreed as long as Marek returns.

Yeah pretty obvious based on the list we should get him if we want him

Well, the alternative view could be that he has nothing but open playing time at schools such as uconn. I could start a power forward for them next year (I am 43 years old).

That said I am cautiously optimistic.

If he wanted a guarantee on playing time he could stay at Pitt and play 40 minutes at all 5 positions.

Maybe I am missing something. Doesn't Golden have to sit out the 2018-19 season? He signed his NLI with Pitt, so even if he is granted a complete release the NCAA still requires him to sit out 1 year.

    • The NLI program requires student-athletes who do not attend the institution with which they signed, or who attend that school for less than one academic year, to serve one year in residence at the next NLI member institution before being able to represent the second school in intercollegiate athletics competition.

I think that the assumption is that with the coaching change (Kevin Stallings being fired), Golden would be granted a full release, free to sign wherever he wants. If not, Pitt risks some bad PR and precedent for their future potential recruits.

Here's the thread. It gives context to my statement.

2018 roster management
But how is JB's competitive nature the reason for adding to the roster? We don't have enough bodies and have at least 3 open schoalrships; isn't that the main reason? Any coach would be looking to add more players at this point!

Small ball one, oddly enough.
on a scale of 1-10, 10 the highest, what are the chances of landing the stud Bryce Golden?

on a scale of 1-10, 10 the highest, is Bryce Golden a game changer recruit who can help JB cut down the nets one more time in April?

6 and 5

We have a good shot if the formality of his commitment to pitt has been released.

At this time he seems like a 3-4 year player who may contribute this year in a physical/bruising and potentially scoring capacity.

This isnt luke harangody but it’d be an important get considering our current scholarship situation and how many players may not return in’19/‘20
