Class of 2025 PG Tyler Jackson (MD) Offered

Tyler Jackson was six feet tall and 150 lbs at 15, and playing really well for a freshman against older players.

His early high ranking extrapolated additional physical growth and development that normally comes with experience.

Unfortunately, he looks exactly the same now as he did as a freshman, both physically and in basketball skills. Many other guys did have the growth spurt and development in their game. So he got passed by a lot of players in the rankings.

I still think he would be a take, but he might still think of himself as the headliner of a top recruiting class. He isn't that guy, so coaches may not want that dichotomy of attitude and talent (not to mention NIL requests).

Red and co, for whatever reason, have apparently gone a different way.

Sebastian Telfair was kind of the same story. Started from a higher floor, but never physically developed past looking like a kid, not a grown man.

FYI: Tyler Jackson left OTE for SoCal Academy. He’s only been with his new team for a couple weeks.

I think roster construction takes time with great evaluation. I’m excited that Kline has been out on the recruiting trail watching games and connecting with players. I think the portal is going to change and the ability to recruit will become important. Red and his staff are building relationships with the 26 class, especially with Rippley and Smith. You put those two kids on a roster and a coach will instantly look better. The four kids coming in next year are all more skilled than most of the players on this roster. We saw Tuesday that the right guys on the floor can play defense. Red needs to get guys who can defend and play offense. We have half a roster who can only play one end of the floor. Sure, that is on the coaching staff, but let’s see how the roster looks next year after a full season with Kline as GM and two recruiting classes under Red. There’s no denying this roster is a complete mess, but we need to be careful we don’t lose all the work going on behind the scenes to put us further back. If the portal changes, which I think will happen, you better be able to recruit. Players make coaches look good. Ask JB?

Any positivity is not welcome here.

Hey, I want to feel positive. Really i do!

We could start next season with these guys on the roster:

Bigs: Majstorovic, Freeman

Wings: Saddiq White, Melo Jr., Chance Westry

Guards: Starling, Choppa Moore, Kyle Cuffe

That leaves 4 spots, right, with a 12 man roster? So that's 8 of 10, minus portals.

We clearly need a C, PG, PF, with what is left.

You're missing Fennell and Womack. 12 scholarship players this season; five will be gone for sure. Seven could return, plus the four 2025s, leaving two open schollies, of course that doesn't include any guys who transfer out...also, I believe in 2025-26, scholarship limits grow from 13 to 15.

Yes, you're right. The Australian semi-pro PG looks very promising.

And the other kid looks like a Chris Bell wing kind of player.

So that only leaves a couple spots for the portal, unless even more guys leave.

Center is focus of next year in portal. They have $1m allocated to find a center. They believe is Aussie kid as the PG of the future and don’t be surprised if Donnie stays.

Freshman are always hit or miss, esp a freshman PG. Would love to get a portal PG too if we have the funds

I hope $1 million is enough to attract a difference maker.

With all this talk about Melo’s potential NIL money and wanting Kiyan to succeed, do you really think he’s going to be happy with a freshman starting point guard? And didn’t we learn this year the importance of spending money in the portal on a legit proven PG? Red hanging his career on a freshman PG who not many know about is dicey to say the least.

That 1M should be reserved for a legit PG instead of a Center. Lesson learned from this season is that we cannot flourish without a legit floor general. Maybe we can get Carey back now that he's had some time on the court at Siena and learned a few tricks from Arinze.

I'll layer something on top of the points you are making.

Over the past several years [dating back to the JB era], the assistant coaches have often expressed stuff that hasn't come to pass. Expectations for how things will play out with recruits, observations about how players are performing in practice, etc.

I've become less confident in "reports" about what the coaching staff expects to happen, because it rarely seems to.

I love Fennel as a prospect. Putting all of our eggs in that basket at the most crucial position in college basketball seems like a big risk. ESPECIALLY coming off of a season where we're probably going to sink based upon subpar point guard play.

I'll give Fennell the benefit of doubt a bit more being that he was a guy that I believe was identified by Kline and not one of our assistants or Red. That said Tyler Jackson was never going to be the answer. Fennell at least looks the part size wise.
