Class of 2016 PG Tyus Battle (NJ) Signed LOI

I give! Each was one game and could therefor be thrown out. He played below his own averaged for 80% of the Tourney yet "carried us to the final 4".

You are completely missing the defensive clinic he put on at the top of the zone. Offensively we had a so so team at best. Defensively we were elite and it was one of the best zone teams we have ever had and a very large part of that was MCW. So the offensive numbers don't paint the whole picture. You take him off the court for any extended stretch and we are out in the 2nd round.

Tyus Watch: Day Twenty

Tyus would be in the graduating Class of 2020 (if he were to stay 4 years)... perhaps that makes this a special day.

If this is true...
and we're still telling Simmons we're very interested, I don't see how Tyus committing can be a foregone conclusion. Unless, the staff is somehow confident of getting multiple scholly's back and that these two could/would play together.

Etymology of the name Titus

The name Titus was one of the most common first names in the first century A.D. It comes from deep antiquity and the technical etymology is obscure. What it actually meant is subsequently also unclear, but depending on creativity and leanings, it may have remembered some Latin speakers of:
  • The mythical Titans, the giant ur-gods of the Greeks and Romans.
  • The noun titillus, meaning a tickle, from the verb titillo, meaning to tickle.
  • The noun titio, meaning firebrand.
  • The noun titulus, meaning title, sign or inscription.
Greek speakers may have associated our name to:
  • Again the Titans (Τιταν), or even Tityos (Τιτυος, Tituos, the guy whose liver the eagle kept eating.
  • The noun τιτυσ (titus), which is a rare form of τισις (tisis), meaning penalty, retribution or vengeance.
  • The noun τιτθος (tithos), meaning breast.
Titus meaning
It's pretty safe to say that there is no single, identifiable meaning to the name Titus in either the classical or the modern world.

Lots to choose from here. Take your pick.

Tyus Watch: Day Twenty-One

All is still quiet in the Twitter-verse. Will this be lucky day?

That was my point. Even though Huerter's looked at as the long-term player, who's to say he couldn't blow up and go pro after 2 seasons. His chances aren't as high as Flynn or Waiters', but they're not that far off with the way he's been climbing the rankings. He could also end up being a chump. Nothing is certain, but Battle is about as close to certain as you can get, which makes him the smarter move, IMO.

Heurter was terrible today at Peach Jam. Scored his only basket on a breakaway dunk off the opening tip. His team got crushed by a team from Houston. Hopkins was there watching him, but left early in the 2nd half.

Tyus Watch: Day Twenty-Two

In the words of Tom Petty, "the waiting is the hardest part."
The Juice just interviewed Mike McCallister to talk about Tyus. Here is a snippet of what was said:

...
Wes Cheng: 2016 guard Tyus Battle committed to Michigan in May, then decommitted in June and took a visit to Syracuse. What’s the latest with Battle, and do you see Syracuse as the favorite to land him?

Mike McAllister: I do think Syracuse is the favorite right now, mainly because, what other options are there? Duke and Louisville were thought to be real threats to Syracuse because he committed to Michigan, but it seems like they’ve dropped off a little bit. Michigan is still there, but it’s rare that someone decommits from a school and then recommits, especially after visiting other schools in the meantime. UConn was another school that could’ve gotten a fifth visit from him, yet they’ve picked up a commitment from 4-star guard Alterique Gilbert, so that takes them out of the running. That puts Syracuse in the forefront. His visit went very well.
