Pitt Post Game

I have so many things to say but it doesn't matter because our University isn't serious about having a winning program since it has already been decided that our coach is coming back regardless.
We know that for a fact? Or is that just board conventional wisdom?

The pregame on the radio talked about how much time they spent at practice yesterday working on puck and roll defense and the first plays to start each half resulted in dunks because help wasn’t there or Eddie didn’t recover quick enough. Coaches can only do so much.

Did you ever think that the people teaching the defense can’t actually teach it? None of our players can make proper rotations not just this game but the entire season. Outside of Brown it was the same last year.

LOL, has there ever been a non-exhibition Gameday thread with the number of pages in single digits?
Speaking of that, today's game thread had a paltry 14 page, we used to get 30 pages easily. I used to love the game threads for comic relief. Nearly everyone has checked out or just watched the game on delay since it has become a chore.

John made a poor hire. He did a rookie mistake as a veteran. You ALWAYS open a national search and then include internal candidates as well.

I’m willing to give JW the benefit of the doubt that he isn’t a completely incompetent moron…not having a national search and hiring Red was likely dictated by politics and others in the university. I suspect that in part because JW has had a successful career, and the Syracuse University administration has been a clownshow for 30+ years.

JW is gonna get most of the blame but from some trusted posters it sounds like JW doesn't have full authority. Meaning that in order to remove JB w 1 year left on his contract we had to go internal with Autry. This is BOT meddling. In hindsight, maybe they should have just let him have 1 more year, announce that prior to start of 23 season and then just do national search. A last dance tour for JB could have been bittersweet and then we should have paid the moon for a Dusty May.

We have evidence the BOT meddled? Isn’t running the University exactly their job?

So I think my buddy was annoyed with me when I told him I shared that 4775 number the other day on Syracusefan. SU doesn't like revealing the actual attendance publicly because it's embarrassing for them. I don't think I'll be getting any real attendance figures anymore.
So, you're saying it's not the attendance, but the (ex)friends you met along the way?

They were probably all raking leaves. LOL!!!

Crazy that Bing got those rebound numbers at 6’3“ 180 lbs.
Centers and forwards were a lot smaller in the 1950s and 1960s. I saw many players under 6'5" get over twenty rebounds back then. Don May was a 6'4" forward who averaged 16.7 rebounds a game for Dayton during the 1966-67 season.

In my opinion whether an Athletic Director wants to hire outside or internal is beyond their scope. I don't picture these folks having a great pulse of the national landscape of college football or basketball, that should be the ADs job.

Probably speculation. Even though there is no confidence in AA for year 3, the first year wasn't that bad so it's not consecutive embarrassing seasons only 1. Also if JW dismisses AA after 2 years it's an admission of failure in deciding to hire him, for some reason they think it looks better to do it after 3 years instead of 2. And then there are the contract details that aren't public. People have been posting $3 million a year, 5 year contract that made my jaw hit the floor and fall out of my chair to give a guy who is 50 and never been a head coach before. There's a reason no school in a small time conference ever offered or hired him to get his feet wet.

Guys also couldn't put the ball in the ocean, so there were more rebounds to go around.

I told the Orange Nation clowns in the chat of their radio show that it's a dead season and they disagreed and mentioned it to Matt Park and made it a whole topic. I mean if you not playing towards the tourney it's a dead season and this is just another ho hum loss in this season.

They played hard but im not gaining any confidence in Red over that.
State media.

I don’t think anyone with ’official’ input or ultimate decisionmaking power actually had an appetite for firing a bench full of loyal alums, without giving them an opportunity to demonstrate that they could succeed, like a former player and golf coach did before them.

National Search is a good thought, but it’s like Succession—you had to look very long and hard to find specific, hard reasons why the children shouldn’t be next in line. This was always going to be what it is, an experiment that had to happen before a real search was necessitated. If Brad Stevens had been available and willing and budget-friendly, JW have had a stroke dealing with the mental gymnastics required to ignore him and rationalize blocking his number.

There’s no way he’s getting 3 million a year. Hubert isn’t even getting 2 million for UNC.

Hiring the leaders of the university (and budgeting and fundraising to pay them) is a big part of what the trustees do.

As far as the board not having a pulse on college athletics...I don't think that's fair at all. Members include names we've all heard of like Mike Tirico, Donovan McNabb, Roxi McNabb, John Lally, Vincent Cohen, and names we may not have including maybe a dozen huge boosters.

I couldn't believe when I heard that figure. I hope that's not true. And then the state run media says we can't pay the buyout on that since we are still paying 2 football coaches.

The buyout should be minimal.

Well they certainly didn't have a good pulse on the state of the bball program. Is that part of their job?
