It’s crazy, it seems like Pitt has the pieces, but they are absolutely awful.

On paper they would seem to be more talented than last year, when they went 14-6 and won an NCAAT game - but yeah, they're real bad right now

I think it is understandable given teams now have players coming and going through a revolving door because of the transfer portal and NIL money. The days of recruiting someone, watching them grow over three or four years, and having some sense of watching the same team from one year to the next is gone.

It has become mercenary basketball . . . everyone is playing like they have a one year deal and if they have a good enough season they want to turn pro, and if not, they are gone anyway if they feel they didn't get enough PT, or were slighted in any way, into the portal they go.

There is a rapidly diminishing sense of continuity about CBB . . . and its not just about individuals and teams, conference allegiance and even existence is increasingly fluid as well.

Kinda hard to build the fan base when the sport feels like it is in a washing machine set to high spin cycle.

The portal has pretty much minimized the concept that a player puts on the uniform and
adopts a bond with the university and his teammates. Any sense of commitment and
continuity from one year to the next just isn't there. It's mind boggling that the portal
has become such a major driver of fan discussion and fan anticipation. It's a game
within the game, a very volatile one that has it's own success/failure criteria
outside of the results on the court itself.

I think this was gone before NIL, these kids have tunnel vision and the goal is making the league, Syracuse and every other power are just stepping stones to where the kids think they’ll end up. NIL and the portal probably put a nail in the coffin.

Haha a little tongue in cheek here, but really… no matter how well Justin Taylor plays (he played well tonight for sure), he is an absolute LOCK for a at least one horrible backboard destroying and/or atrocious airball miss from 3 a game. Guaranteed.
