Postgame Thoughts… Duke

Your last point appears to be the case. I honestly think the only person that can stop next year’s repeat is Julie.

She can’t be enjoying this as much as she says. Everyone is aware that he’s never had a losing season.
Agreed. For the record, I understand that interview was likely arranged pregame. It was just a tough spot to be in considering the score, and our overall record. Hard to figure out what to say in that spot.

ADJW is going to have to step in if that’s the plan. Standards are too high, rightfully so, to do this again. Not fair to anyone who isn’t a Boeheim.

I mean if there were injuries, debilitating illnesses, suspensions, etc., fine I can understand that mentality. But this is just delusional.

sy had 6 assists in 24 minutes...continuing hs roughly 1 assist/4min average for the season...all with ZERO turnovers

and his teammates couldnt buy a shot today too

HE NEEDS TO BE THE STARTING PG

Doing that would essentially mean coach admitting he was wrong.

So temper your expectation...

On that note. I've had a hard time trying to explain JBs strategy over the past couple years to myself and friends in basketball logic terms. I would say tacking on to your point the best way to summarize it is Clark Griswold in Vegas Vacation.

I think the better analogy
its simple

his strategy is prop up a team around his son(s) and let the chips fall where they may

Quiznos!!

That man said that? That’s amazing.
i worded it wrong...but close...he was right about not winning games though

"We’re not winning any games if this is the defense," Boeheim said. "Colgate is a better team than almost anyone we’ll play against the zone, but there will be teams that are good against it and we obviously have to be a lot better.

The talent disparity of this team vs top 25 teams is massive. If we don't get 2 (not 1 but 2) high level accomplished talents in the transfer portal for next season things will get even worse next year. Having Jimmy and Swider back is not the answer.

The roster construction is dreadful.

Edwards is a work in progress and is coming along nicely, but he was an inexperienced, IMG B-team player when we got him. Jimmy and Buddy were not recruited as major D-1 players out of HS. I think Buddy has turned himself into a good offense player, and Jimmy is a serviceable player. But neither have the attributes to carry this type of team. Swider and Torrence couldnt break through at their last major programs. Girard was recruited to be a combo guard offensive super sub type.

Really, this team is exactly what the record says they are.

No issues with Julie doing the interview, which was certainly planned pre game. But it did kind of reveal the man behind the curtain….

That is what I mean the interview was fine her answer was embarrassing. There family clearly putting joy and happiness over winning and that shouldn’t ever happen at a university the level of Syracuse. We all can see what is going on but saying it out loud is a bad look. JB and Buddy should have transferred to the IVY league and it would be a great story not the other way around.

I mean, it’s not even behind the curtain.

This is a vanity exercise that’s being allowed to go on. Anyone that isn’t biased knows this.

It wasn’t hard to predict what this year would be like, it wasn’t hard to predict what would happen this game and it’s not hard to predict the catastrophe that can happen this off season and into next season if the sons come back.

Get ready for people to call out how many close losses we’ve had. Get ready for people to trash the guys that transfer. Get ready for everyone to justify running it back as it being JB’s god-given right for all he’s done.

It’s all on the table. None of it is hidden. Juli didn’t reveal anything that isn’t clear.

Starting PG play over the last five years or so at SU with Girard and Frank Howard has been horrific. Toss in some terrible defense, weak rebounding and a dose of daddy ball and you have the recipe for brutal mediocrity. And maybe the biggest indictment is they're utterly boring to watch.

But, but what about JB’s remarks just a few games back; “I don't look at the record, whether 14-0 or 7-7, that's true. All you people and all you internet people, the only thing that matters is the next game.” ;)

The only thing I'll disagree with is that basically every nightmare scenario that was envisioned preseason about how bad we could be played out, but there were reasons going into the season to think we had a chance to be pretty good, too.

None of that came to fruition though.

There was an interview preseason by Jim that told this the whole story. It had to do with how many minutes a certain player would have played here if he came back. Jim’s lost. His goal was clearly building Buddy’s AAU team into a d1 team. It failed. We need to move on with or without him.

I'm losing faith in our HC. Even if we do get those "2 (not 1 but 2) high level accomplished talents in the transfer portal", what's the guarantee they'll be "ready" by his standards. His player utilization has been abysmal and now with the diminished talent we've had, it's only made it more apparent.
It's clear he thinks Buddy/JB3/JG3/Cole are high-caliber D1 players, and it also abundantly clear to anyone watching this debacle, that they are NOT.

Yep. There was a path on paper to being a good team. It stayed on that piece of paper from back in September

Buddy is the only Senior who has been here 4 years.

We had 1 person recruiting class last year.
We didn’t bring in a guard.
We should never not bring in guards.

JB has underrecruited positions and we have become dependent on one player per position.

It’s a joke. Buddy is a solid player he should never be used as much as he is and not have people on the bench even if you don’t want to play them a lot.

What were the reasons?

Buddy being a lights out all American would be the only one I could think was realistic based on prior results.

It was a conscious decision to bring in his other son and another one to play him more minutes than he was getting at an Ivy.

During the most wide open tranfer season I can remember.

You’re right. It wasn’t hard to predict and there were people contemporaneously saying that this wasn’t a super great idea.

Gave you a like, but I 100% disagree with you.

The talent and coaching isn’t there. It was going to be Buddy shooting a ton and everything else was a back seat. It became even worse that Jimmy gets the second most shots a game.
