Postgame Thoughts… Miami

The difference in the game was Jesse and the corner three. First half Miami took the shots and either were blocked or they missed, second half I don’t think they took one, pump fake and drive EVERY single time. Jimmy was awful. If you looked at the numbers, Cole played a great game, but he really didn’t, he was awful until the final couple minutes.
This is what happens when you have 2 slow forwards trying to cover that much ground and not having the quickness to close ground. It's not Jesse's fault.

Love Buddy and hes really turned into a great player for us...but hes asked to do way too much for this team because the pieces to the puzzle just don't fit at all. All these kids are nice players on any team but not to be starting together for 30+ min a game. Buddy also is one of the worse defenders I've ever watched play at Syracuse...concrete feet and watches just about any person dribble by him. Same can be said for a few other guys as well.

Is this the worse defensive team you can remember watching in the JB era?

Glad i fell asleep on couch with 4 minutes to go in first half and just now woke up. Now I get to go to bed and sleep it off. All will be better in morning. It great when you care less than you ever have.

It’s not at all, he shouldn’t even be out there. It’s not fair to him.

We doubled in the corner at the end of the game and all the guy had to do was throw a pass to the teammate standing 5 feet away for an open 3. Our defense is so low effort we can’t even cover a few feet of space or get one rotation correct.
Our traps in the corners are the worst I’ve ever seen them at SU. Not even close to an actual trap

This is a great point. I think we do have talent.

It just meshes poorly.

Even though we played well in the first half, we should have been up by more than 14 due to reckless unforced errors that cost us at least 6 points. That proved to be the difference.

We had the ball with the chance to extend the lead to 18 or 19 to end the half, but instead are up 14. You can’t do that crap when you suck.

I think by late in the second half, our already slow players are exhausted. They put in great effort in the first half, but the second half was brutal.

Jessie was great on offense but even better on defense, literally a 1 man show
His defense was not good in the second half. They stopped shooting in his face and drove easily around him. He has to adjust how he closes out on players.

I agree. It is ridiculous to expect your center to cover the corner three pointer, but he does it. It is a wonder he doesn't foul out in 10 minutes based on how he has to move around like a madman.

Not to mention completely giving up the momentum. Finish the half stronger and maybe Miami comes out different in the second half.

Symir had 6 assists in 14 minutes.

He’s got some Z Sims to him.

And we don’t exactly have Autry or Michael Lloyd ahead of him….
We don’t have John Wallace or Otis Hill, either.

as bad as a Buddy was today, he’s not the problem ultimately.
hes needs to play with a valid Pg, a slasher at forward...to get open looks. He’s being asked to do way way way too much. It’s ludicrous

Yeah, I've been trying to make this argument for years...JB is trying to build a team for Buddy to be a scorer. Buddy is not a scorer. He's a shooter/specialist that could do a tiny bit more with the right parts around him.

The roster construction needed to make him a "scorer," make the team, and ultimately him IMO, much worse for it.
