Postgame Thoughts… ND

Whats funny (sad? ironic?) about this team:

Offense/roster...put together to be dangerous from 3...cant shoot 3s/consistently outshot from 3...either mssing or cant get enough looks

Defense - designed to stop 3s/force teams into shooting 3...opponents cant miss from 3

Its like the defensive strategy is based on the premise that teams cant beat us from 3. that the 3 is a low percentage shot that we should want other teams to shoot...but they can and do.

and the offense is the inverse...we can beat teams from 3...but they cant and dont.

worst of both worlds...smh

the offensive and defensive philosophies contradict each other...in the losingest way possible.

asst coach "so whats our defensive strategy coach?"

coach "we will force them into shooting A LOT of 3s"

asst "but what if they make a lot?"

coach "dont worry...no one can ...its too far out"

asst "have you seen steph curry?"

coach "whos that?"

asst " nevermind...so what do we do when we get the ball?"

coach "we're gonna build the roster around 3 point shooting"

asst "but we dont have a point guard...how are we going to get open shots?"

caoch "well we wont be able to get open 3s...so we'll have to shoot a bunch of long and/or contested 2s"

asst " i dont get the logic of it...but okay coach!!"

Since joining the ACC

Syracuse: 182-113
Notre Dame: 183-114
This right here should actually show people where this program is at right now unfortunately. The thought that “we’re syracuse” etc etc, that doesn’t fly anymore and hasnt for a while. The allure of this team is gone and is why guys like JJ do not commit and go elsewhere. It used to be a dream for local kids to play at su and now it’s just an offer. It’s so frustrating but the game has evolved the players for other programs has evolved and our plan unfortunately has not ...

I laughed at this. In a sad way. But it was hilarious. Our staff is in over their head. And won’t stand up the HCJB because he was their coach. But this is the same coach who has half his wins against paint cans in 48 years.

as does every coach.

Two weeks ago I thought we could go on a ACCT run with the right draw but we’re going to be gassed by the first half of the second game.

It sucks but hopefully we get an NIT bid and JB finds a way back to 1,000 wins this season.
1,100 wins is the benchmark I want by season's end (and preferably 1,102 so they can finish with a winning record). I hope that the University doesn't even recognize 1,000 again (guessing JB would fully support this too).

The Starling recruitment was actually the reason I looked this up, and it was closer than I expected.

That’s the list of coaches that have won multiple titles since JB took over 45 years ago. Nine. Eight if you’re a stickler for NCAA vacating titles. That’s the list.

I mean let’s not get crazy here.

Tone it down just little.
JB hasn’t had one losing season in his career.

He deserves respect.
The guy is good.
Wanting change is one thing. Disrespecting JB’s entire legacy isn’t acceptable
Thank you. We can be frustrated with where we are now without demeaning JB's whole career, but that's his go to schtick.

Symir should’ve played more, like from the start of the season.

He would have tonight, if he hadn't given up a wide-open 3 on an inbounds play.

Al, you’re a great poster. But regardless. This isn’t where we should be. JB needs to show more. And put in some effort present day. And he hasn’t.

But as a fanbase it shouldn’t be disrespectful towards JB’s legacy.

He has given a lot to the program. Wanting change is fine. I just saying don’t go after his legacy. That isn’t what any SU fan should do.

I mean I am frustrated but I will appreciate what he has done.

We could make a run with the right draw. Sadly we are locked into the 8/9 game and then Duke.

What’s your view on the other two guards on defense?

Joes our best defensive guard and the only guard on the positive side of BPM.

Was good

Other guards were decent, for them. Symir was good, maybe except for that play. I honestly don't know what he's supposed to do on inbounds plays.

JB hopped up and yanked Symir after that play. He was having a good game. Until that happened, I thought he was headed for more minutes than he'd had in a while.

His DBPM is the highest of the guards that play, that’s true. It’s also true he is the only one in the positive.

But his DBPM is 0.4.

Buddy and Sy, if I’m reading it right, are both at -0.3.

I’d punt on Sy’s numbers a bit with the limited playing time, but he’s obviously not Kawhi.

Larger point, while Joe is def the best performing on D in advanced stats, it’s still bad.

I will say, I *think* his DBPM was at 0.0 a bit ago, so I believe it’s trending up. But, again, it’s still a bad number.

Tough game. Tougher one next. Got to get back up on the horse.
