Projecting the two deep

I think grant and Lewis start but Barnes is basically 1-B and plays just as much.
I think it’s going to be Bellamy and Lewis starting and Grant as 1-B playing quite a bit too. Barnes will likely play a little bit early on as well and then more as the season progresses and if any injuries occur.

Not any great insights here, just based on some pressers, brief glimpses, and experience.

Starting Defense - DL. Diggs, Wilson, Hastings, Jaquez; LB Wax, McDonald; DB Grant, Chestnut, Clark, Barron, Lewis. Six Seniors, Four Juniors, One RS Soph.

Offense - OL Weatherspoon, Petry, Reed, Bradford, Washington; TE. OG; WR, Haynes, Pena, JRS; QB, McCord; Rb, LQA. Four Seniors, Seven Juniors, One RSF

Here’s a note on the OL Average of 6-5, 318 for all 17. Only one is under 300.

DL - 7 kids you would project inside average 300, that’s a remarkable change.

2s D DL, KJE, Perry, Nwokocha, Jobity; LB, Sparrow, ZMG;, DB Barnes, Perry, Gould, Delaine, Bellamy. 3 Jrs, 5 so, 1 RSF, 2 Fr

O OL Cruz Jr, Moeolo, Ilaoa, Miller, Wohlabaugh,;TE Villari/Mang; WR Hatcher, Meeks, Gill; QB Johnson; Rb Willis. 4 Sr, 5 Jr, 2 So, 1 Fr

Chase Simmons will be 2nd string DE and Jobity plays inside now though could play DE still i guess. Presume KJE will be pass rush specialist, he's not big enough yet to play DE every down at 225-230. You forgot EFC, he'll for sure be in rotation

Sounds like Justus Ross Simmons won’t be playing much at least early in the season. Still working through injury as camp comes to a close.
Good thing we have another Ross :)

Grant is going to start. Second cb position probably Lewis but could be Bellamy.

Don’t know if you have inside knowledge, but all of the reports from Brent axe and Emily leiker is that Bellamy is the number 1 corner. Lewis, Barnes and grant are battling for the other spot.

No inside knowledge but Grant was an AA that was switched from safety to corner. He’s 6’4. Started corner in the spring game.
I expect him to be a starter. I could be wrong. We all get our information from the spring game and the limited clips prior to practice. That seems to include most media based on their suggested depth charts.

yup. He’s also a good tackler. He’s definitely starting.

Yes. Two transfers beat him out. Weatherspoon at left tackle and Washington at right tackle.
When a good player like Cruz ends up on the second line, we become much better. Same thing is happening at too many positions to mention. CB WR QB DT OL all better and deeper. Thank you, JW, for having the stones to hire Fran. Thank you, Fran, for bringing it.

He’s overrated by the board. He really wasn’t that good last year.
Probably so, many of us were so excited for a guy with his athleticism at tackle, and he was our highest rated recruit in his class iirc. Should keep improving with this staff and team, and I suspect we’ll need him at some point. Hope Wohlabough keeps recovering, it would be an awesome upgrade to be solid at both tackle spots for a whole season. How many years have we been playing a true guard out of position at RT at some point (Petry, didn’t Evan Adams have to play tackle, the big boy from Maryland in between them).

That is really unfair. 13 starts, kid was available at a position that was in flux, he’s started 18 games his RSF and So season where he’s been the most consistent player. Zero sacks allowed is big. Is he Bergeron, no, but doesn’t mean he sucks. If he has been recruited over, that’s a credit to the staff and those guys, hard to get guys that can step over a two year starter.

EC is a good player who got thrown in the fire early and did okay. Most programs he would have been a depth piece to this point.

He 1000% mismanaged that kid. Talk about setting someone up for destroyed confidence.
Mismanaged? What does that mean? He has one job...get out there and put it through the pipes. He better improve mentally because there's no more Babers for everybody to use as an excuse.

I think there is room between overrated and good. The recruiting profile and tailgate deal pumped him up in some fans eyes. People hoped he would be an all conference caliber players. He didn’t reach that level yet. He’s not a bust.
I wouldn’t say he was good though. Cruz really struggled and would have given up more sack without Garrett’s mobility.
Syracuse’s tackles for the majority of last season were Mark Petry (55.7) and Cruz (52.4), who were both graded poorly by PFF.
Glad to have him as a back up. Hope he sticks around.

Think the competition is making him better too. I see him starting again in his senior year. And he's getting on the field at times this year too. Depth is important. You want to be a big time program as Fran says? You need backups who are starter quality.
