Dr. Bill Here! We do need some Bigs! Why are we not recruiting this 6-9 player? Good question, one thaat we need to ask the coaching staff. One of my complaints about the coverage of women's hoop in Syracuse...is the lack there of! Recruiting information is really lacking. As a hoop head, i thought about putting together my own vehicle for reporting on Syracuse Women's basketball recruiting. I have not acted on it...because I don't sense there is much interest from our fan base and I wonder how much interest there is in our staff in discussing their recruiting strategy or targets.
Concerning our need for bigs, this I know, 6-5 and taller players are in demand by every program and there are way more players in the 6-2 to 6-3 range that are out there. A front court of 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 and a backcourt of 6-0 and 5-9/10, should be tall enough to compete with most teams from a rebounding perspective. The key is the skill of the players that fill these positions. Rebounding is a lost art and much of that skill is related to heart, desire, and lastly skill. How many players do you see go after the ball first on a rebound and fail to seek out a player near them to box out first?
As an aside. Stanford has 3 recruits on the McDonalds All American Team, One 6-5, one 6-4. The 6-4 player is from Australia and was recruited by the Cuse, but our Australian connection wasn't powerful enough to secure a visit. Welcome to the ACC!!
