Class of 2022 QB Henry Belin IV (NY) Offered

His O is based on the premise that you take what's given. That's great on paper but Ds have figured out two things.

First the ability to disguise what's given. This requires the O to make good and quick reads. Something that we haven't been doing well.

Second the Ds last year simply decided what they were going to give us and we couldn't take advantage of it.

Last point the Run pass option only works if your QB can pull it off. With Eric he was the primary threat which made it work. Tommy might pull off a run or 2 a game but everyone on the planet knows SU isn't going to win with TD running.
Long story short opposing Ds have Dino's O figured out. I truly believe the only way we win is with an excellent running game that allows Tommy the luxury to take shots or with a solid dual threat QB that maybe Shred is. If and it's a big if we can establish the run Dino has a chance to pull off 6 wins this year. I'm hoping for the best as he seems to be a great guy.
Every offensive coorfinator has the mind set of taking what the defense gives you and attacking where you have an advantage. I think we put too much of a emphasis on the scheme. The offensive plays are common with 80% of college offenses.

What makes Dino's offense unique is the tempo and strategy. His strategy is to pass the ball to set up the power run, where the defense has to worry about the deep shots first before trying to stop them from running the ball. When you do that. Offense can gash you with the power run game. When you don’t have those deep threats taking shots is meaningless. Defenders can focus on the run. Thats my beef with it. No matter what scheme you run if your offense can’t do the fundamentals things to execute you are in trouble. Particularly the offensive line

If you can't run the ball against teams daring you to run with 6 in the box, then there really isn't much your offense can do.

We have a natural at RB, a rebuilt and I assume healthy OL. Time to make that happen and let the offense do all the things it's supposed to do.

Going after Shrader and recruiting Lamson, I assume ends the dream of the drop back DeVito model, and gives in to the Dungey creative QB model.

Which is exactly what we should be. With this offense, the drop back model works at lower levels because you're not dealing with D Lines for example that have 3 or 4 starters going in the draft. At Bowling Green Dino ran into a line like that maybe once a year in their bowl game. We can't recruit OL of that caliber with any consistency, so why try to make a drop back model work? Makes no sense.

If we have that type of line - then you recruit the drop back QB's, not the other way around.

This is an excellent point, and I never thought about it that way

It's Duke unfortunately, Dino being on the hot seat is killing recruiting right now and the lack of success isn't going unnoticed in the ADs office. First month will likely decide whether he's fired or not

That sounds about right, 3-1 should be the goal in OOC

I think he’ll rally. Im as depressed about the situation as anyone but I just don’t see this being how it ends. I hope it’s not my blissful optimism getting the better of me

we will get someone better(he mutters bitterly under his breath). best of luck to the young man, next!

I have the same feeling. I feel like there will be a resurgence this year culminating in a bowl game; too many weird things went wrong last season that made things look much worse than I think they truly are. Dino knows that he needs to adapt if he wants to be consistent in the ACC, and I have seen evidence with the staff that he is attempting to do so.

Vent Mode:
He's from NY. He has teammates from Cardinal Hayes on our team. He's got to identify more w/HCDB than 66-yr old David Cutcliffe. He'll play indoors on a fast track. If he's good the NFL will notice. What. Instead he's going to North Carolina where the QB room is full of higher-rated signal callers. To a mediocre Duke team. Aren't we mediocre enough?

I know, bull track records and asst. coaches and scheme and future potential $$$. Blah...

As he did not specify that he is 100% committed, or request that we respect his decision, I think this is only a partial commitment.
What really matters is the hats. Did he pull the hat? I want to know.

It's really getting old not having a commit from the #1 target QB however, TD was a target QB and that hasn't really worked out.....yet.

Meh. NY sucks for football crootin.

No point in locking it down, when we can get guys from FL or elsewhere who are as good or better than the ‘top’ NY guys.
But we can't recruit anywhere, so saying we can get better players from elsewhere isn't true and just another rationalization.

Better football, better academics. Miserable statement because we have 0 respect for Duke football but hard to argue otherwise. Bowl games 6 of last 9 years for Duke. Dino's got us to 1 in 5.

Uh, we got a former 4* QB to transfer in from an $EC school.

And Lamson from CA, who looks like Dungey2.0.

But you stick with your #narrative.

We lost out on 2 QB recruits today. We have some sort of streak going. I don't see anyback up plan for a QB recruit.. Thanks coach martin. It's the "Gift" that keeps right on giving.
