Liberty fans are also saying he had a hand injury as well as the ankle. I have no way to verify that but it at least adds some contextGood to know, his numbers down the stretch were quite concerning
Ehhh I am still not sold. I have a lot of shell shock from watching dual threats with terrible accuracy. He had a bum ankle...just look at those highlights. He was not right but gutted it out. He even had a long TD run to keep them in it at the end where he was clearly in a ton of pain and still ran by everyone.
If he comes he startsI don’t know much about Salter but two things; he’s a much better thrower than Shrader and he’ll be a way better back up than Johnson.
Where I’m concerned is watching his highlights and passing abilities, then realizing the percentage of contested receptions our receivers had to make. We need a highly accurate, dialed in QBI really think we're making a mistake here.
Salter isn't someone that I've watched film on so I can't really give my personal opinion, but FWIW, it seems like his accuracy is considered to be closer to fine than truly bad. It's more that his average depth of throw is insanely high so it's always going to be relatively low percentage passes in terms of completion percentage.Ehhh I am still not sold. Get Salter and let Jakhari and him and Carney fight it out.If he comes he starts

I know we won't have someone as good as McCord and will have to make it up elsewhere, but it's the numbers against bad teams that scare me especially as the season went on this year. He's got a big arm there's no doubt about that. That said getting separation deep was not a strength of ours this year.Salter isn't someone that I've watched film on so I can't really give my personal opinion, but FWIW, it seems like his accuracy is considered to be closer to fine than truly bad. Having said that, I think it's a safe bet he's not nearly as good a passer as McCord; the hope would be the plays he can make with his legs offset that.
Would certainly be a different looking offense.
We have no idea what Nixon is planning to do next year. No inside info but IMO Nixon is the guy picking the QB's he wants to bring in, not Fran.Yup this is my major concern. The accuracy numbers scare me a ton as well as the massive drop off in production 2 years ago to last year. I am not sold that this is the correct fit for what Nixon was trying to do on the offensive side of the ball.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a significantly different offense in Atlanta next year and Tennessee goes, "WUT?"
I hear you but there isn't another McCord sitting out there. Heck there isn't a McCord level passer playing the playoff this year. We're going to have to get the best QB talent we can and then adjust the play-calling accordingly. I agree that it doesn't mean throwing everything out and running the triple option though.Makes sense when you have a super successful offense that works well, especially in a dome, to change it up after 1 season..

You may not get a level player but you can search the portal and bring in QBs that have similar attributes because McCord just showed what the offense looks like with those attributes. Accuracy would #1 quality to look for if I was trying to replicate McCord. Salter has been the opposite of accurate so far in his career.
Just playing a little devil's advocate again here, I think you could argue that having someone as dangerous as Salter is with his legs forces the defense to (1) have fewer players in coverage or (2) a lot more zone than man and those things could help alleviate some of the separation issues our receivers have. I don't pay for a PFF subscription so idk if teams generally played Liberty with zone or even how much man vs. zone we faced this year, but that's one thing the coaches could be thinking about if they're really targeting someone like Salter.I know we won't have someone as good as McCord and will have to make it up elsewhere, but it's the numbers against bad teams that scare me especially as the season went on this year. I wonder if Salter/portal QB1 is an enticement for Nixon to stick around.
It makes more sense to adapt the offense to fit the talent. I'm sure the preference would be to find a QB1 similar to McCord. But, short of that, Nixon's value will be how well he is able to adapt the offense.Makes sense when you have a super successful offense that works well, especially in a dome, to change it up after 1 season..
Let's just pile on the compelling reasons. As if his daughter transferring to Syracuse to play soccer isn't.
