Class of 2021 QB Kaidon Salter (TX) Portal to Colorado

Nobody has any idea how Jakhari is. The fact that Fran is hitting the portal hard for a QB tells you something, especially with Johnson coming back . I'm all for stacking your roster with 5 or 6 QB's and let things sort themselves out, but I think if Jakhari was a sure thing we wouldn't be going so hard for a portal QB. I like Saltar, but I do admit it was nice having a pure PP in Kyle. The thing is Kyle is a unicorn. Talents like that don't grow on trees. Saltar showed in 2023 that he could put up numbers if healthy, with the right talent, and OC. I would make a large wager that next years starting QB is not on the roster yet.

Beats me how good Jakari is but there’s no depth and that’s scary. Johnson isn’t much and then it’s true freshman after him. Really need a capable backup. Presser says to me Fran wants someone good enough to start but if that kid doesn’t win the job we have better insurance.

Which by the way is not a knock on Jakhari. The dude is a Freshman this past season. Give Jakhari a legit shot to fight for #1, same for the kid out of Texas and see who shows out. Whoever our #2 is will see action next year, especially if Nixon needs to adjust to player strengths and he ends up running a more hybrid style.

Johnson definitely isn't the guy. We should be able to get a good portal QB. I've only seem Saltar play on one occasion. I'm going to watch a couple of there games but if we can lock him up i'll be happy. Hopefully Jakhari and Carney turn out to be good but that's a role of the dice at this point.

Jakhari is a true frosh right now and our schedule next year is pretty stacked. I think you need a top flight transfer irrespective of what Jakhari is or isn’t.

I'm all for bringing as many QB's as possible and let them fight for the job. We know more than most that if you don't have a capable QB you don't have a team. With the 105 scholarship's I would try to have as many as 5-6 QB's on any given roster. Recruits, portal, whatever. Best man wins and the rest will take care of itself.

100% that's why i'm all for Saltar if we can win the recruiting battle. Having a 3rd year starters experience is irreplaceable. Then if he some how gets beat out then we know we have a player in whoever that may be.

Yeah and Salter was injury affected last year. I think healthy he could be a really good fit for us. Replacing 4 OL starters as well, doesn’t hurt to have a mobile QB.

Maybe our staff would offer a package deal to Salter and his center Jordan White who also is in the portal with a very high rating, we could definitely use a quality center and with them both playing together at Liberty I'm sure they have their rhythm down.

I actually cannot believe people are complaining about the best rated QB in the portal taking a visit

If McCord never happened people would be going crazy about Salter in a good way. Now the only way people will be happy is if it’s Arch Manning and then I’m sure they’d still find flaws with it. Some of these portal QBs we should be happy we’re even in the discussion. None of them are currently WRs if you catch my drift.

(Some SU fans have actually advocated for Sluka and Castellano lol)

Also his former teammate from Liberty WR CJ Daniels. Could be a triple package

He threw for almost 3k yards and 32 TD’s and ran for 1k yards the year he was healthy with > 60% completion %.

Is Fran hitting the portal hard for a qb? He’s looking no doubt but I don’t see it as hitting it hard. With our success this season, we will get better opportunities than most so to me I my looks as if he’s “kicking the tires” as some would say.

McNabb started as a RS frosh and turned out just fine. We aren’t getting another McCord. Let’s look to the future and I understand that JW may not be the guy but we all thought that KJ had a chance at qb1 instead of McNabb in 95…well those of us who are old enough.

Some of us watched a few spring practices that year and weren’t convinced McNabb was going to be the guy.

I think it speaks to unknowns of the qb room as a while more than anything. The only real known commodity is Johnson and I don't believe anyone wants him to be "the guy" anymore than Villari.

Carney has no shot.

And yet somehow a Frosh Eric Dungey, who came in as a stringbean at 185 lbs, managed to perform pretty decently as a true Freshman dual-threat QB.

Hmmm….

(Yes, I know that injuries forced us to play him. But he did fine.)

Carney has a P4 QB body already, benches 305, and started and led his HS team to 4 straight TX state championships.

He’s got the skills.
He’s just behind on college experience compared to Jakhari & (potential) Portal QB.

Back to Salter: IF he’s healthy, and especially if he can get the band back together and bring his C and WR1 with him, then it’s prolly a good pickup.

In Fran We Trust.

The same people that are pointing out the flaws for Salter also want nothing to do with Sluka or Castellanos so it's a false equivalency.

I'd be just as excited for Salter as I was for CDRW or Braden Davis or Shrader when we landed them. They are all flawed QBs, which is why they aren't playing for factories.

We can do better. There are QBs that saw what McCord did in this offense that are looking at us differently now. It would be silly to rush into a decision here.

I admittedly don’t know anything about his QB ability, all I know is he started school at Tennessee and got booted for weed possession. Since then He has 6500 yards passing in his college career, something like 20-5 career record and led Liberty to an 13-1 season and Fiesta bowl appearance. Our three former quarterbacks that you listed are nowhere near that capable.

I’m all in on Jacari Williams for now so I don’t care who we bring in as long as they’re better than Johsnon.

He has 3 of the top QB’s currently in the portal visting this weekend. When i say hitting it hard that’s what i mean. He’s definitely going for a top tier QB to start next year. Not that he’s going to bring in multiple QB’s. Even though i wouldn’t mind if he did.

There is a huge difference between Salter and CDRW/Davis/Shrader. Saltsr has proven on the field he can be successful and win. All those other QB’s were back ups that never proved a thing. I was never excited for any one of those guys except Shrader a bit. Major difference .

Who is the 3rd qb visiting? I heard Collins and Salter.
