Class of 2023 QB LaNorris Sellers (SC) Flipped to South Carolina

On the surface, I can see them saying it to be polite, though I highly doubt we would want to stay in touch. After how long he was commited to Beck, and Beck was commited to him through everything, then literally after signing day flips. One article I read about him went on about how he was raised to be a man of his word and stick to commitments, so we'll see.

This will come out harsher than I intend though with flipping, he will have shown his true colors and that is essentially betrayal to the man who stuck with him through it all. No need to keep in touch after that.

I bet Beck stays in touch with him regardless of what he does. And I don't just mean in college.

Just a note, I don't put any really value in articles about being honorable and what not for 16, 17, and 18 year old kids when they are verbaling. When I was that age I was out drinking in the woods and being an idiot. I'm not going to assign that type of benchmark to someone that age.

People change their minds, but with the portal, they can change them back without a penalty.

If it works out, it works out. If not, I trust Beck.

I get it and was like you at that age. It's just not a topic that I would have even allowed to be discussed frankly because I knew I was flaky.

While I would love for him to honor his pledge and sign with us, at the end of the day it's his life and his choice. My issue is the timing. He did not handle this well, though like you said he is 17 or 18 so oh well.

No shocker. These delayed signings never seem to turn out well for us.
That being said we have good talent in the qb room, and w/ the portal, it's never over till it's over.
I agree with both you and Yogi Berra :)

Honestly, I think there is a lot more information and access to watching the athlete once they are in college to appropriately grade them against college competition. He was graded before he committed to SU. Imo Villari was appropriately regraded and is better suited as a TE if it were up to me. If we got them out of HS, yes we would probably be doing handsprings going down Marshall street because of the massive potential. It may just be me, but I am very wary about transfer QB’s coming to Syracuse. Shrader is a bit of a different story because it was a total change of scheme, but we heard all year of CDRW’s accuracy issues, and it showed when he was actually game planned for. IMO I just don’t see him as an elite QB, who will be able to consistently move the ball. Even during fall reports it was reported Shrader was by far the most accurate passer of the bunch, and as much as I love Garrett he isn’t known for his accuracy. I certainly think he can come in spots and give us energy like the ND game, but to be counted on for a full season I just don’t see it. This isn’t even a vindication on CDRW. We all know QB’s win games at this level. We need as many on the roster as we can manage and let the best man win. IF we lose Sellers after 9 months right before NSD it obviously puts us behind the 8 ball on bringing someone else in and with the offense we run I wouldn’t feel comfortable with 3 QB’s.
Write off a kid with 1/2 year in a system making his first start against one of the top defenses in the country (certainly defensive fronts)…seems a bit hasty, no?

I I think the kid has some excellent attributes and can be a very good collegiate quarterback with another year of seasoning.

The portal has changed everything. To be honest, we need to reframe what we deem “recruiting”…Syracuse would be very wise to use the portal much like Kansas State did with JUCOs under Snyder.

The portal has become more important than HS recruiting. Let’s say Sellers comes here, doesn’t want to wait 2 years and leaves. Which is a very realistic scenario.

If I’m Syracuse I’m dedicating an entire position or positions to portal recruiting. It’s a game changer.

shoot even the mighty Clemson brought in a portal QB this class.

Here is my backup approach if I’m Beck:
”LaNorris….I realize you feel pressured to flip to SC. Here’s a compromise, stay home, go to SC your first year. Take the NIL money. Make all your friends and neighbors happy. We have Shrader next year anyway that you’d sit behind. Transfer to Cuse your sophomore year and start the next 2-3 years. Win win.”

Spot on.

Lol why do some of you when we lose a recruit start to act like he’s any less talented? Sellers is a stud and him choosing South Carolina doesn’t change that.
There's a chance he'll be good, but let's not appoint him as the next savior of Syracuse football. It's not Archie Manning walking through that door. I'm just saying we have two QBs on the current roster that were rated higher than him in highschool. Tommy was even rated higher coming out of school and we all can see how that worked out.

I don't doubt the kid is talented, but he's riding the bench in 2023 and maybe 2024. I just don't think it's that big of a loss.

The same reason that y'all put a kid up on a pedestal and deem him the savior of the team before he ever steps on campus or plays a down of college football.

Look what a difference a year made with Shrader for example.

Wilson was brought in by Beck - the guy knows what he is doing.

It's the week before Christmas. Most schools have been out for vacation since Monday.
Ill Be Back Jim Carrey GIF

Pardon me if this field has already been plowed...
I listened to the pre-Pinstripe press conference featuring Coaches Beck and Monroe with players Shrader and Wax. Shrader will have the experience of working under his 4th OC in Coach Beck.
He made 2 simple but telling statements in my book re: Beck.
SHrader stated Beck was the best QB coach he has ever had AND the last 2 weeks were the most fun he has had at QB.
S.Carolina has recently hired a new OC named Loggains. The majority of fans were NOT pleased with this selection as this guy hasn't had much success at that position. Loggains appears to want pro-style QBs.
If I'm LaNorris Sellers taking all this in...with a yearlong close relationship with Coach Beck...
How am I not putting on a CUSE hat @ 11:32 am tomorrow?

Quick someone tweet the Shrader interview at him

I just have trouble seeing a young kid getting an auditorium full of SC fans together so he can tell them he’s going to Syracuse. Slim and none and slim just left town and I’m one of the more optimistic ones on the board, having said that I don’t think it’s devastating news at all .

Maybe he's got some Tobias Harris in him. Let's hope, anyway.

Field parties were definitely the best! We had so many spots. When one gets busted just go to the other. One was on top of a hill called Hawks Hill. Cops hated walking up there so when they did they were pissed. One Halloween we were up there and set up some sort of sting operation where a few cops came up the hill and we ran down the other side. They had cops hiding in the bushes and everything trying to catch us all. Fun times.

This is a terrific post.

And frankly, I would trade a Sellers commitment for a sophomore 4 star WR from a P5 school from the portal. I think it's more a position of need.
