Class of 2025 QB Luke Carney (TX) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (3/25/24)

Will be an excellent spring competition between Carney (who I think is enrolling early) and J Williams.

Stoked that we are bringing this kid in. I think it’s criminal how low he is rated on the sites. I want to know what evaluators looked at his stats and watched his junior highlight and gave him his current rankings. His accuracy and zip on the ball look fantastic to me. Appears to play very composed and heady as well. And he can make a play with his legs if a play breaks down.

I bet we end up bringing in a one year stop gap starting QB transfer for the 2025 season. We should be able to pick up a pretty good one with the depth situation we will be in. Then we have a redshirt Frosh and redshirt Soph dueling it out for a long term starting spot in 2026. A good situation for both of those guys.

I still don't quite understand how a kid with those stats with back to back to back state championships in Texas wasn't grabbed already. Smaller school sure but I imagine football at a smaller school in Texas is the equivalent of a NY large school.
The state of Texas has 10 QB's ranked on 247. Carney was the 10th. So much talent in Texas, California, Florida, Georgia and a few other states that it's crazy. I'm thrilled that we landed him and we know how this recruiting stuff is a lot of hit or miss.

247Texas hasn’t reranked since last August or September, hoping Luke moves up, he deserves it, he’s now in the Top 5 QBs in Texas on Rivals which reranked last month, he moved up on TD Recruits, which is a Texas only ranking system

Luke was given an 84 rating by 247 on 8/21/2023, so before his junior season even started and before he put up ridiculous junior year stats. What are the chances they take a look at updating his ranking sometime?

What are the chances they would have updated his ranking already if he had committed to say….Texas?

He definitely would have been properly evaluated had he committed to UT it ATM. I’m so glad he’s coming in. What an amazing coaching staff. We are very lucky, but WE DESERVE IT FOR SUFFERING FOR 20 YEARS.

Dallas Christian has it's first game this Saturday, 11am 8/15, against Fort Worth Christian.
Here in the Gulf it's a feels like of 115 degrees ... I hope to God these guys hydrate.

So dumb.

But maybe this helps us indirectly.
Yeah I agree even though obviously hate seeing our guys get downgraded without any meaningful football being played in almost 3/4 of a year.

It looks like USC might lose their long committed QB JuJu Lewis and thus USC has been in talks w a top qb committed to A&M. No particular reason than paranoia but I’ve been wondering if A&M loses their guy if they would look at Carney. More likely they prob start the dominoes and pull a qb from one of the other Texas schools (SMU/TCU/Baylor/Tech) and one of those schools could kick the tires with Carney. I think we’ll be alright but would like to see A&M keep their guy so all these schools don’t start panicking.

I'm an acknowledged homer, and I'm also not an analyst or a scout, but how can a prospect whose thrown for 10K plus yards with a ridiculous TD/INT ratio, oh and 3 state titles in Texas, be 3 stars? Someone smarter than me please explain :)

I’ll explain it, in brief:

Because he’s committed to Syracuse.

So - he can’t be that good.
See above.

I appreciate the challenge, but I can't explain it either.

Rovals probably haven't seen him play in a while so they needed to downgrade him.

Lets hope we can retain him. Texas is a long ways from Syracuse in both distance and culture. If one of the local schools comes calling its going to be tough
