To be fair, it sure sounds like Brent Axe failed to get multiple sources before going with the "scoop."

On the other hand, it also sounds like his source was the kid himself, which I used to think would have made the single source a viable option.

Axe didn't ask everybody else around the kid where they thought he was going, and then run a story because his crazy uncle said "Syracuse."

If I was a reporter and a kid who had just been on a visit to the school I cover told me he was committing, I am not sure if I call the coaching staff to confirm before going public... It isn't like Brooklyn Vick committing to Syracuse basketball and the coaching staff was all saying "Who?"

The coaches at Syracuse had wined and dined him days earlier, it sounds like the kid himself didn't know he didn't have a committable offer.

On the scale of journalist screw ups, this one seems vanishingly small.

Unfortunately, Axe can't come out and say "Collins told me himself" even if that was his source. That would make everything worse.

You joke, but you play enough poker, you see it all. I once saw a woman lose her stack, lean over to the man next to her she'd been flirting with, whisper in his ear and walk away. A minute or two later he walks away. Five minutes later she comes back with $100 and buys back in, couple minutes after that he sits down next to her and isn't making eye contact with anyone. Someone says "I hope you two washed your hands..." And his face goes beet red.

Now from a BJ perspective, as a Newhouse grad it would be bad reporting to make assumptions. But from a bj perspective... Safe bet.

This. Especially in the context of Collins reposting it and then saying something like it wasn't finalized before finally landing on saying his recruitment remains open.

I need more information brother!! After many knee surgeries during my football/tennis days - the older I get, the more my knees are hurting. I do a lot of heat and ice, but I need to do more.

With how active I am - I just stared doing hot yoga, which I never would have guessed is something I would do - but my back is thanking me, that’s for sure.
 
Hearing from a very reputable source that there was a 1 hour passing drill that featured McCord and Bjorn and Bjorn won and McCord is going to the cfl and Ricky is going to Washington st and is expected to be ready for the bowl game playing for WSU and Bjorn will start for us in the bowl game.

Very very very reputable.
