Class of 2023 QB Rickie Collins (LA) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (12/20/24)

Why would he be cool with it originally and then all of the sudden not be cool with it?

McCord getting another year is nowhere close to 50/50. It's essentially the dumb and dumber scene at this point.

Bees said there was some chatter at last night's Club DART event that the chance the McCord request gets approved by NCAA is a lot better than previously thought and closer to 50/50... and that the hope is they will find out next week.

Hope is alive.

To me it seems clear that Collins is planning on committing to SU just like Axe said. He hasn't done it yet however, likely because we are awaiting a final decision on McCord. If that gets denied Collins commits. However since that is not 100% known yet, Rickie smartly says his recruitment is 100% open. I mean if SU isn't 100% sure McCord is moving on he has to say that and keep his options open. He would be dumb not to. Any site that posted he has committed already s likely incorrect. But IMO, While Axe's info is likely correct saying that he intends to commit, for Rickie's sake it would have been better if Axe said nothing at this point. Or maybe he should have worded as he is leaning SU. Either way, the big picture is looking pretty good to me right now.

No.

Yes leaning or giving the cuse serious consideration would have been better phrasing

Outstanding is strong. He was a serviceable passer when healthy. Nothing more or less. His arm strength was not good and his accuracy left a lot to be desired.

I’ll never question his toughness or running ability though. I think GS will be looked at fondly down the line
Let’s be honest, he was not very good at throwing the ball and a grade of below average is probably the correct answer.

Agreed, Shredder was a GREAT athlete, tough as nails, great kid, and ran the football HARD. But he was not a good passer of the football. Mike Leach ( RIP one of my favorite coaches of all time) was correct.

When you have a QB that runs like he did, they most likely will not make it through the season healthy.

Wow, thanks to you and Bees for the hope -- boy, that sure would make one helluva Christmas present! (I would be perfectly fine with just that and nothing else).

His completion percentages were in the mid-60s, and he was throwing the ball down the field. He didn't throw it nearly as often as we do now, and our line was mostly trash. One thing he generally did not do was throw interceptions.

His junior year, he was 2nd in the ACC in passing completion percentage. He completed 205-of-317 passes (64.7 pct) for 2,640 yards with 17 touchdowns and just 7 interceptions ... Ran for 453 yards on 150 attempts and nine scores ... His .647 completion percentage was second in the ACC and it was the third most accurate season in program history ... 147.9 passing efficiency rating is the ninth-best season in program history. He missed one game through injury.

His senior year, he started the season great before he tore a muscle in the shoulder of his throwing arm in October. Through the first 6 games, he averaged 17-26 (65.4%) for 212 yards per game and 7 touchdowns. In a rush-heavy offense under Babers.

And he added 31 TDs on the ground!! That's the 4th most in program history.

We have very different definitions of the word outstanding. Shrader was a more athletic Zach Mahoney.

Shrader gets a bum rap from our fans. In 31 starts at QB through two seasons at Syracuse, he has engineered five game-winning or game-tying drives capped with a score in the final 90 seconds of regulation. He has gotten the ball back with a chance to win or tie with 45 seconds or more on seven occasions and ‘Cuse has won five of those contests, and missed a game-tying field goal in one other.

I agree, a healthy Shrader brought a lot to the table. He wasn't the passer McCord is, but his ability to run narrows the gap. His problem was that he was rarely healthy.

Maybe we lose a game or two this season with a healthy Schrader that McCord won? Everything else about the two teams was so different, it's hard to guess.

No doubt, based on what actually happened, I'm thrilled we have Fran Brown and McCord.

I'm really hoping that we get Collins or that whatever else Fran is holding out for happens.

Nobody we've ever had measures up to McCord. But he was the equal of Dungey or Nassib.

Facts disagree with you.

462 completions at Syracuse ranks fifth in program history ...
5,771 passing yards at Syracuse ranks sixth in program history ...
60.4 completion percentage at Syracuse ranks third in program history ...
136.1 career passing efficiency at SU ranks fourth in program history ...
164.9 passing yards per game ranks sixth in program history ...
7.54 yards per attempt in his Orange career ranks fifth in program history ...
39 touchdown passes at Syracuse ranks sixth in program history ...

Ends his career ranked fifth in program history in total offense (7,474 yards) and third in program history in yards per game (213.5) ... 31 rushing touchdowns ranks tied for fifth in SU history with Sean Tucker and James Mungro ... 70 touchdowns responsible concludes his career ranked fourth in SU history

Well, Syracuse has been playing football for about 120 years now, and generally speaking, he ranks as about the 4th best QB we've ever had, based only on his passing stats.

And he ranks as a Top 10 ball carrier all-time on top of that.

Can you show those stats?

To second what CL said, not the case
