People want reporters to ask tough questions until they ask tough questions of someone they like. And sometimes, it's just the way they look.

people need to remember a presser isnt the white house press room. grilling someone tenaciously isnt going to get you the information you want.

having interviewed a few, coaches respect questions that indicate you've done research and understand the game. Anyone expecting a beat reporter to constantly grill is out of touch - you see these guys everyday almost.

At some point you need to do some leg work and get indicators over the long haul which is only possible with glad-handing and being likable.

This isnt the watergate hearings, which people dont get

2nd string. Behind a stud.

And Collins was third string his frosh year behind a Heisman winner and the guy who was a stud starter this year. Then this year, he began as the backup to the stud who ascended after the Heisman winner went to the NFL.

I watched a lot of the tapes on QB’s we were “considering”. Just because he hasn’t played - doesn’t mean he’s not talented. If he beats out JW - we are in good hands. He was my favorite of all if then. He was not a backup option and that isn’t just my opinion.
