Class of 2023 QB Taron Dickens (NC) Portal from Western Carolina/Visiting 1/8/26/Offered

No of course not but no offense to this kid but seems like Miami will throw millions at someone high profile last minute and get them into the portal. Dickens is an exciting player but he likely isn’t a Miami target.
Not for QB#1. But in evaluating where to be QB#2 or even QB#3. If Miami gets stuck with Holstein, would he rather be competing to step in for him or competing against Angeli/Odom. Plus, it's Miami, both weather climate wise and football climate wise.

It's crazy that he would make significantly more money next year if he returns to college. Going Pro loses you money
Yeah I doubt he's going pro. He can make more money in college. Unless you are definitely going in the first round, it seems like it definitely makes more sent to stay in college. I assume he declared to build his appeal. Say your going pro makes you sound even more valuable to a college team when you pull out and go to a different school.

So i guess sometimes the pull out method can be a good technique.

I'm guessing Dickens may be in the fold currently, unless a big opportunity comes a long.

Update on Simpson; as of 15 minutes ago, BamaOnLine is reporting he officially signed the NFL draft paperwork.

Ha. Well I guess he may be projected late first to early second. Still with only playing 1 year in college with solid production, it seems like taking a college payday and gaining another year of experience, possibly even in a different offense, would be more valuable to him currently and maybe even to his future success. We'll see where he gets drafted.

I don't mean to bring the topic back on Taron Dickens in the Taron Dickens thread... but I completely forgot that Taron Dickens was the kid that went 46/46 in a game this year... that'll work.

I gotcha but I doubt they get stuck with an option like Holstein, but this is definitely a situation to keep an eye on

Yes and no… if he is a first round pick, he will be guaranteed $20+ million dollars. So he may get less next year, but significantly more total money is locked in. And of course he is also one year closer to the theoretical $200 million dollar deal if he is an above average starting qb

Seems like 4 year deals at the bottom of round 1 are around 12 mil. at around the bottom of round 2 is around 6-7 mil.
So much of the money math is depended on where he gets drafted. As we saw with McCord. That is realy hard to judge with QB's.

Regarding the second part of that though I'd argue that it doesn't matter about being a year closer to getting that second deal. The timing of it doesn't matter. The factor that matters is if he would get that second deal or not. And if anything, another year of experience in college should only increase the chances he would get a second deal as he'd be more ready when he starts his career. Especially when he only has one season of starting experience under his belt.

You get an early contract and you get vested in the NFL pretty much locked into 3-4 yr deals right? So you get Medical and a retirement deal after a set number of years.

You do the FA thing you have to play well to get anything.
