Just my take - but Q made it very apparent SU was not developing him for the nba. Current players and recruits care so much more about the nba than what is ever shared. It is literally all these kids talk about. When guys like Oshae improve 10x NOT being at Syracuse and then a guy like Q bounces to another program, so THEY can develop him more effectively, I got some questions for SU on this...
I respect this take, but it kind of seems like a cover for the players.
QG struggled with injuries that limited him. That sucks. It’s no one’s fault. Not his or the school’s.
He also couldn’t knock down an open 3 to save his life. That’s not Syracuse’s fault. He’s not going to sniff the league if he can’t consistently hit shots from college range. He can’t beat guys off the dribble one on one, and seems to be committed to being a 3 and not a small ball big.
Syracuse got Tyler Lydon, Malachi, Tyler Ennis drafted high; are we going to hold the program responsible for what happened after that?
Oshae didn’t elevate his play because he left SU, just like the guys listed above didn’t regress because they left SU. It’s a combo of scheme, opportunity, and things finally clicking above the shoulders about what it takes to be a pro. What happens after these guys leave is no longer connected to the school at all, as much as we like to take credit.
Benny Williams is sure confident in the staff’s ability to develop him, same with Kamari Lands.
If you’re implying Oregon is somehow a better pipleine to the pros that’s just not true.
QG could be making money playing basketball in Europe and possibly the G League next year. Oregon is at best a lateral move. Him not being confident in his ability to be a pro is not SU’s problem anymore.
