RB Jarveon Howard transferring to Alcorn St

Look, I think Howard has been a productive player during his time as an Orangeman. I'd rather not see him transfer. I think depth is important. But it appears his mind is made up. He wasn't playing meaningful downs. I would assume Pena is the emergency back if something happens to all three of Tucker, Adams, and Lutz, and Hough isn't back yet.

I like Pena a lot. He's often the only one in the picture at the end of a run:

Too bad, I really liked Howard. Too bad he couldn’t be of a team mindset against Albany. As always, next man up.

Coach on a pop Warner team would have come out on the field and ripped the player a new one, all the way back to the bench. Then it wouldn’t have happened again by anyone. Things like that are like an open door. If you let it happens it leaves the door open that it’s okay. You either slam that door closed or you keep it open for other issues later.

Feels like things were taken care of before Liberty. I thought DB looked really intense Friday compared to normal. Like he was going to rip someone’s head off. I liked it.

Yeah Dino is coaching for that opened USC job. He got his swag back babyyyyyy

He was the #2 guy:

...until his reaction to Shrader 'stealing his touchdown'.

Putting this thread together, i think because of his favorable academic situation, he probably planned to stay and eventually succeed Tucker, assuming that Sean would jump to the pros. But things soured so badly that he made the decision to leave and left now because of his anger and because of the redshirt rule.
Jarveon "stole" a lot of touchdowns from strickland and neal in 2019 and neither of them said a word. I figured Jarveon was given some promises to commit here akin to what TD's dad said about getting guys to stay last offseason.

Based on one of his family members commentating on every Babers press conference to give him carries and him likely being in the dog house for his reaction to GS leaving to me the writing was on the wall. Wouldn't be surprised if he lands at a G5 and gets a lot of carries his final two seasons, perhaps Southern Miss or UAB, something like that.

Sorry to lose anyone at this point, but not entirely disappointed to add another scholarship slot in the 2022 class with the cap staying at 85.
Howard was a favorite of mine but this is one of several positive, and non-toxic ways to look at this situation. Dino’s added some great late in the class gems throughout his time here especially from juco/grad transfer

too bad about his leaving . i believe he could have been a very good contributor. was it his attitude that was a ?problem

Tucker
Adams
Lutz
Couple of walkons.

Maybe Hough by the end of the season.

You can never have enough RBs.

Stick it out for the rest of the season and he can transfer in January.
i don't agree that lutz is an option.

Well we did have to play a converter db at tailback last year and already lost JJ before the season to portal and then Hough to injury. If another RB gets injured that leaves us with two…
Nah Pena can pop back there in a pinch. Pretty sure one of the converted LB could too. Not ideal, but it's the position a lot of kids have played some time at at one point in their lives

Lutz is a nice fill-in option, but if you have to rely on him being a guy getting 15-20 touches a game, then you're probably not having a very good season.
To be clear, he is basically being discussed as essentially an emergency/mop-up rb as the new #3. It's pretty much understood that if he's getting that many carries, things have gone quite badly.

Everytime I watch highlights on YouTube, there’s a comment from his dad on the page complaining about Babers and him being a liar about playing time. Must be a coach issue with the whole family
I find it hard to believe that Dino promised anything to a guy who opted out last year. A lot of times people with emotional interests hear things in a way they weren't intended. Taking to social media to stalk a coach is bush league behavior, regardless of any "promises" that were made.
I hate to lose Jarveon, but we don't need toxic family members hanging around.

Yeah, this all sounds reasonable.

so………..when are we going to talk about the elephant in the room if we don’t want any “toxic family members”

No doubt. This is D1 P5 football for crying out loud, not everyone plays and gets a trophy garb. The only thing any coach at this level should promise anyone is that they'll have amble opportunity to fairly compete and EARN playing time. Period!
