RB Jarveon Howard transferring to Alcorn St

Sounds like a great decision on his part. Has a chance to play near home and be the Sean Tucker of Alcorn.

Hope he gets 20-25 carries a game and kills it. Good luck to him.

I really liked Howard -- kid could have been a starter here. But his decision to sit out last year [which I don't have an issue with] gave Tucker his opportunity, and here we are.

Wish it would have worked out, but no hard feelings. Like you, I hope he kills it.

I applaud those with all the good sentiments. For me it's 3 strikes and out.

1st strike: Opt-out (you can justify the opt-out if you want, but when I played...all I wanted to do was play. Covid protocols would not have stopped me from getting on the field or mat(wrestling). These guys ain't Rudy.

2nd strike: GS TD display of selfishness

3rd strike: Quitting on your team mid-year (Enter the portal after the season, probably won't ever change my mind on this and yes I know GS did the same thing, don't like that either)

So yeah 3 strikes, I'm out.

Best of luck to him. He’ll crush it there. Wish it worked out more here but it just wasn’t gonna happen with Tucker here. I’ll be rooting for him. Truly the best decision for him to leave here cause he’ll be able to showcase his talents elsewhere. Really the only negative of having a stud running back like Tucker is that you’ll lose some good guys behind them in depth chart because they realize they won’t be the back here when they can go to other schools and crush it. Don’t blame the kid at all. Best of luck

I gotta agree with the sentiment. A lot of the time I like to see guys who transfer out finish their career strong. But I will never understand quitting on a team mid year, especially after opting out last year. Truth be told, I don't understand the mentality of any opt out, especially in college. (I ran collegiately cross country and track) the sports were life, and many times more important than the rest of the 'college experience'. You couldn't get me to walk away from my team or sport, even continuing to run my final season while student teaching and living at home, and training alone, only returning to campus for the weekends races and invites. All that said, I don't wish any ill will, but he isn't someone I care to actively root for post SU career.

It’s not hard to wish any person well in life. 18-22 year olds will make bad decisions and learn from it. Just like we did. He had reasons to opt out. I am actually surprised he came back. He didn’t have to. Some of us take this fan stuff too personal. We watch a team that he plays for.

I don't know the details, but I thought he opted out due to a personal matter at home he had to deal with... nothing to do with Covid...

I’m going to change my opinion based on this b/c you’re right. I don’t have an issue with the leaving/portal aspect. I had an issue with how he acted on the field. But I’m an -sshole all the time and i forgive myself pretty quickly. Sports is emotional, so I wish him luck and I think he’s going to crush it at Alcorn.

#2 - I still don’t think I’ve otherwise ever seen someone openly mad when their teammate scores a touchdown. Incredible.

No one really cares. It's like all the people they say thoughts & prayers about everything and don't really do either of those things. We're just all robots that say things we think we are supposed to say without any meaning behind them.

I agree we often take fan stuff, and sports in general, too seriously. There are two sides to this stuff, however. We watch the team he plays for, but the only reason the team or the players are relevant beyond that of playing just for fun is because lots of people watch. Without fans/viewers, there are no scholarships, no NIL, and no pro leagues to aspire to.

I said that to put it in perpective. We don’t have to be angry. Especially if we don’t know all the details. Howard’s actions have no direct effect on my life.

Is this like, your version of when I say I don't understand what everyone is getting worked up about, because we're still all going to die some day?

Because if so, I dig it.

I’m feeling pity for the future defense personnel of the SWAC that will be facing him
