I’m looking at next year a little different so hear me out.

The only way Autry saves his own butt is cleaning house and going all in with the youth next year. Throw out the rotten core.

Build the entire roster around the Frosh coming in. More than talent we need guys that actually will play together. Give Sadiq and Kiyan the keys to the dome.

No one’s saying we don’t need as much talent as we can find in the portal. Problem is Autry has shown that he can’t get his guys ready or be consistent. He doesn’t have the coaching chops or personality.

So what to do. For all I care Kiyan and Sadiq can sit in a room on their own and pick their portal guys like it’s a fantasy draft. Guys they know, guys they trust, a roster that will play together. The opposite of what we saw this year.

The scary thing are those who think this season is just an anomaly and Red hasn’t been given a fair chance yet to show what he can do. They think we are still relevant and not a joke to the rest of college basketball.

Those are the same posters who were claiming after 19 wins last year what a great job Red did with the malcontents and just wait until he has an offseason to get his players in here we will make the tournament no problem. Then he gets his players in here and now we are terrible so it is a different excuse. It is always going to be a different excuse because they have a personal connection with him.

He can have an NBA all star team and the only thing that will do is mask his inability to coach better. He isn’t the man we need for the future. He didn’t learn much from jb. We aren’t in position to let him learn on the job. The team hasn’t gotten better. Same mistakes are repeated every game. He doesn’t know when to call a timeout or how to use one especially at the right times. Our offense is terrible, our shot selection is terrible. I don’t see many bright spots. Time to move on.

Not saying he is but like it or not you’re stuck with him next year. I’m saying the only way we get through next year is to worry less about the talent because he’s not turning it into anything anyway.

He wants to be a players coach so might as well have the players pick the roster and let them run things.

Sounds like a very Rutgersian approach.

I thought we were Syracuse.

I still don’t believe we are stuck with him.
If all we win is 12 games or less (stuck on 9) and don’t make the ACC tournament, I could see SU cutting the cord.
Fact is Red and his team have to show some improvement and positive consistency.
JW proved with Fran that he is willing to take a risk and it paid off.
And if crowds continue to fall, the revenue stream is sharply cut.
i can only imagine how much parking revenue they have lost this year.

This team has a good chance to lose 20 games, and that was only done once in school history.
That team went on the next year to set the record of 27 losses in a row.
If they lose 20 games you can't bring Red back.

We aren't stuck with him, but the ACC is sooooo bad this year that I don't think the record will be bad enough to miss the ACCT. That's probably what would have to happen to ensure his dismissal given the strong internal political headwinds of making what should be a common-sense, business decision here.

Not just the bad ACC. Right now Autry and Wildhack can play the injury card. 7 games without JJ and half the season without Donnie.

We can all use common sense and say yea ok we still weren’t making the tourney but the penny pinchers can also say well we never got to find out.

If the team could play mediocre defense everybody would be a touch more forgiving.

The defense is so bad my god. Over two seasons it's clear whatever scheme or thing they're trying is a miserable failure.
The offense is nearly as putrid. Very little semblance of a plan whatsoever.

Anyone who watches the games knows those injuries don’t change the trajectory of the season, and the people who watch the team is who JW has to convince. I don’t think there is a big contingent of Orange fans who write off this season to injuries. We were bad with and without JJ and Donnie.

This.
Yes, the offense also stinks but sometimes that can be dependent on other factors, like a gameplan ffs. But defense? IMO, defense is about effort and "want-to", no matter the scheme. If you give max effort, you may not always win, but you won't be a perpetual punching bag for every school w/ a pulse. And even those teams that are not on "our level", we struggle to keep up...and it's like pulling teeth to scratch out a win.
This team cannot, will not, but most importantly does not, want-to play defense. You can see it in their eyes- it's just an afterthought. I've waited for Red to throw down the gauntlet and start benching people, like the old "whole substitution" move, where you sit those playing like crap on the court, and put in walk-ons if you have to, just to make your point. I've seen no indication that Red has that kinda move in him. So the blowouts continue, the pathetic play continues, and it's rinse and repeat.

The truly upsetting thing to me is this team can legitimately play good defense when they all buy in and bring high energy.
We saw that in the Texas game and the last ND game.
But except for Cuffe and Taylor, no one thinks it is important.
And that is a product of bad coaching and bad culture.
Not to mention treating your best defender, Cuffe per Red himself, as a flipping yo-yo.

We seriously need a basketball version of DART.
Not only for the players but the whole coaching staff

Those are the same people who allowed JB to stay as a coach after the 2014 season started out 25-0. Finished 3-6 for 28-6 that year.
Then over the next 9 years went 172 -126 for a winning pct of .577 and didn' t think anything was wrong.
That shows how irrelevant this program was allowed to become.
