This is probably the correct take. Those who know Red personally and the local media won’t blame the coaching and more so the lack of NIL (they are not mutually exclusive issues).

I will say, Red seems to be a nice guy and seems to know what move to make (good with media, recruits well, coaching/GM hires, etc) but he just can’t seem to coach and have the x’s and o’s at an adequate enough level (which is the most important part of the job).

Is it? Without talent Coach K couldnt win a game

Not just the bad ACC. Right now Autry and Wildhack can play the injury card. 7 games without JJ and half the season without Donnie.

We can all use common sense and say yea ok we still weren’t making the tourney but the penny pinchers can also say well we never got to find out.

After all the warning signs and terrible play we saw early season, my take was "OK, we'll know by early February if Red can can right this ship as it's so bad that we should be able to see progress."

Well, I think we know and it's not quite February...

The 1st 9 minutes of the game yesterday when we were staring at a 25-2 scoreline and what didn't happen on the sideline while this unbelievable horror show developed answered the question unequivocally.

Each minute was a nail in the coffin.

Period.

I'm not debating that the plan is still to bring Red back even tho he can't coach.

But maybe let's contemplate what that means?

If that is still the plan, then this program is an also-ran shell of itself with no hope of sniffing the NCAA tournament.

Our expectations will need be re-calibrated. Eeking out a winning season each year should be the goal going forward and an occasional NIT in a really good year.

It's time to accept our new station as a completely irrelevant program.

Accepting that, I hope the school is ready for the 5K or less consistent home attendances that comes with that approach.

When the product is this bad, the experience is no longer fun, and if the school is ready to double-down on it, people can and will find other things to do (and probably should.)

I for one, believe I possibly read this board too much except I think that I am actually in a potential minority in relation to completely favoring Coach red . Because I personally believe a lot of the negativity comes from people who are just plain negative in general and I think you’re one of them. I also think a lot of people have nothing better to do, I however do. I also think you have very little basketball knowledge but that’s just my opinion. I could be very wrong. Maybe you’re a season-ticket holder and a donor and just plain Mad. While I am as well. Some people just don’t have a lot in common for one believe in positivity and reality that differs for some people. I also wonder why some people are so vehement when we literally bring back two people from the team last year missed on an exponential amount of target and we are playing freshman. What do you think the results would be if we hit on all the targets. I for one believe we would be a tournament team that includes retaining Malik Brown while still attempting to navigate this amazingly difficult terrain

I think there are a couple of camps here, broadly speaking.

One camp is people who see an SU hoops decline that goes back at least 7 seasons, if not longer. Autry, needless to say, was a part of that decline, yet was hired into a plum job without any head coaching experience. Thus, folks aren't willing to give him much patience, to use your word, because he's seen as part of a longstanding, ongoing problem.

Another camp (and it seems like a small one) are folks who have bought into what Red was selling this summer and don't tie him to the decline under Boeheim. They believe most of our issues are due to not having enough NIL funding. And that the hiring of a GM will improve the quality of player he attracts via the portal. Also, that the additions of Melo's son and White will immediately infuse talent into the starting 5 that we lack today. These folks have patience, because there really is no other choice at this point.

The clear reality of college hoops today is that a coach doesn't *need* years to turn a program around. Camp 1 think Red has failed in this era, because he missed badly on a number of player additions, and is a lousy in-game coach to boot. Camp 2 thinks there are extenuating circumstances (NIL) that warrant him being given a break.

That's really all there is to it. No one is "wrong", necessarily. I'm a first Camp guy myself, but I'd like nothing more than for Red to crush the portal, have Melo Jr. and White be tremendous, and for SU to be a top 4 seed next season. Trust me, I'll eat all the crow if that happens.
