Robey

Townie, I like you and much of what you said is correct. I like JB too, and even had a t-shirt of the guy over 20 years ago before some of these bandwagon/rich kids who inherited JB got on board. However, it doesn't mean I have to defend or agree with everything the guy does, right?

And your last sentence is something I have never done, if you check. You're thinking of many of the clowns on here, but not me.
Captain;

I'm not mad at you. I like your stuff on here.

This is just a little light weight arguing.

You are actually bringing up an interesting thing.

What ever did happen to TR?

Was there something about last years team that allowed him to be more effective?

I'd love to hear his side of the story. One of those young guys at the DO ought to try and do a story on this.

Wow talk about speculation.[/QUOTE

Here's a suggestion for you. Try reading the entire post carefully before you comment.

Twice --- not once but --- twice in that post I said this was speculation.

Then your comment was "talk about speculation".

Maybe if i said it three of four times it might help.

Robby is so bad at shooting even 10 feet in. That's 90 percent of the problem ..

The thing is, correct me if I'm wrong, at the beginning of the season it didn't seem that way?

He's been king of the from rim line drive from day 0

Gbinije/Richardson were much greater threats to drive to the hoop, as was Cooney to an extent. When the guards were actually working together to cut and penetrate, Roberson was freed up downlow for dunks and lobs.

This years team outside of Battle doesn't do that. Whenever Gillon drives its blindly and out of control.

Robey's body language also seems a lil' "off", IMO. When I watch replays of TB's and JG's game-winning shots, he seems hesitant to jump in and just... celebrate with the rest of the guys.
I hesitate to say this since everyone's personality is obviously different, but he seems so disconnected, his "affect" as they say in psychology, seems vacant and distant.
If, as some have suggested and I happen to disagree with, JB's approach has caused this sort of reaction, then there's more here than meets the eye. After all, this is a guy who can be a major factor when he's dialed in. It's baffling, and maybe there's a physical aspect we all aren't privy to. Odd.

It's been a remarkable regression this season for an apparently healthy player. I don't know how to explain it.

Has anyone ever questioned if he really wants to play basketball? People who want to be out there don't need to be motivated or "plugged in". His going through the motions act that he's been under the past four seasons is more than someone needing a fire lit under them.

Was he going through the motions when he was pulling down 20 rebounds?

How many times has he pulled down 20 rebounds? The Duke game was last year. For someone with his ability, he doesn't bring it when the lights are on. Can't keep citing this one game. He's more inconsistent than he is consistent. There are a number of players who were goaded into playing basketball because they had ability or height, but it wasn't their true passion.

Yeah I agree with this and think there's a lot of truth there.

You're the one that said all four seasons. He grabbed double figure rebounds a dozen times last year, averaged 11+ boards in the NCAAs including 18 against Dayton. He's been lousy this year but he was far from going through the motions last year. That's just a dumb statement.

Selective memory on your behalf. Getting "plugged in" was a problem last year as well as it was the year before. Roberson is a microcosm of this team; you don't know what you're going to get on a nightly basis.

As it relates to this season I 100% agree with you. But my selective memory remembers him hustling his azz off keeping rebounds alive that led to numerous second chance opportunities. Were you out of the country last year?

For all the comments from some about how badly JB treats Roberson, why did he stay at SU for 4 years. Did he suddenly get tired of it? Did he think things were going to change (if he didn't)? We have all seen how well TR can play when he really applies himself but those times seem to be getting shorter and fewer. I truly hope the kid fares well in the future. That he can take his SU degree and build on it. It has gotten to the point that people here should realize that things are the way they are and stop dumping on both JB and TR for a situation that will not change over the few games that are left.

This.
As fans we still hold out a glimmer of hope that he can be the Beast Mode of last year's run, but the reality of what I've seen all year long suggests otherwise. One can only hope because if it were to happen, this would be a far better team.

It's not like he's gotten any better since Boeheim publicly emasculated the young man. How many of you can blame him for his level of confidence/motivation after the continual belittlement?

I didn't like JB going after the guy publicly but Roberson had his best stretch of his career after JB tore him a new one in that press conference. He was absolutely great throughout our tournament run. That cannot be erased. He was critical. What makes him unplugged or plugged in, I have no idea. Neither does the staff clearly.

Oh, I didn't say hold out hope! Never. But don't bother to dump on them both this late in the season. Ain't going to change anything. And my mention of the few game left in the season, I hope its at least 8! If not 11 (1 regular season, 1 to 4 ACT and 6 NCAA)

I've always been a big roberson supporter. I have no idea what has happened, but strictly speaking in terms of offensive ability, it's truly insane how robotic he looks out there. It looks so unnatural. I haven't watched every team play, but I really find it hard to believe there are that many more players out there that look as uncomfortable doing virtually anything on offense as Tyler. It's sadly remarkable.

Its amazing to me how both Roberson and Howard have seemingly gotten worse the longer the season has gone on. I'm not talking about ups and downs in play. I'm talking about the application of their physical talents and basketball skills during games.
